Palworld: Pokémon with guns

I had no idea this was on GP, will give it a try but I'm more interested in Enshrouded whilst we wait for the next Valheim content. Currently playing Return to Moria but it's really not that great.

I've never seen a game out of nowhere blow up like this, what is even happening?

Are we seeing the birth of a new dominant genre similar to what happened with PUBG or will it just be an anomaly?

How will Nintendo and Pokemon react, lawsuits incoming?

Why do Nintendo keep being mentioned? It's like asking why Immortals Fenix Rising didn't have lawsuits because the character used a similar glider to BOTW.
The game has nothing to do with Pokémon or Nintendo.

lmao, I went on twitch to see if I could find a stream to try and "get" the game. What's with the scantily clad girls? Is twitch an adult site now?
edit: okay one of the streams was just a baby monkey eating various foods, I feel confused.

Do the animals not look like pokemon to you?

No. Pokémon are Pokémon.
Granted I only vaguely remember the original 150 but unless they are recoloured assets then they aren't even close to the same.

In much the same way games with a turtle don't get shut down because Nintendo made Koopa Troops.

hm, I've seen a lot of pokemon fans refer to them as pokemon too along with calling the game pokemon with guns. There are also a lot of people saying its what pokemon arceus should have been. Granted my source is mainly reddit so meh. To me they look like pokemon.

Yes because people like to try and bring things down to their most basic parts.
The game was revealed over 3 years ago. Even if Nintendo owned the genre (hint they don't) They'd have done something long ago. They also don't own trademarks on generic red bird etc.
And yes Reddit is full of basics so that sums it up.

Edit. Lol I googled palworld Nintendo sue.

Dunno man, even the capturing of animals with a ball seems very pokemon like to me. Preceding pokemon there was ghostbusters but pokemon never made me think of ghostbusters.
I was going to grab some screenies and show you some comparisons of some of the creatures but then I found a quick and dirty comparison online:

Like it or not they are very similar.

Again. Nintendo don't own a game mechanic.

Like it or not, they are not similar enough for it to be an issue :) Why is TemTem not shut down? People looking for issues that don't exist. Unless we have a sudden influx of I.P lawyer specialists I'll wager its just noise.

I'm not invested in this at all. I don't care about suing / what nintendo should or shouldnt do etc, just stating how similar it looks, to say there is no similarity is pretty odd imo.

I agree, can you show me who said there is "no similarity" ?

I'm also not invested in it, I haven't been on Twitch to watch the game.

I also didn't mention anything about mechanics but you latched on to that for some odd reason. But as I mentioned after the pokeball capturing system looks similar (they could have used a net or something else), I then likened it to ghostbusters to show you that yes the mechanics aren't something new but from the design of the game it just reminds me of pokemon. They even have a "paldex"... look I'm not into wasting my day arguing over silly things so lets leave it at that.

I mean it's clearly piggybacking off of Pokémon, whether any of it is legally problematic is a different question. I imagine the studio took a pretty close look at the laws and skated as close to them as possible.

To be fair, people have been asking for this type of Pokémon game for years, yet Nintendo keep pushing out the same garbage reskin every year. Good to see someone doing something different with the IP.

I agree, legally I doubt anyone will be able to do anything. Saw this from a reddit thread haha:

If I was a huge fan of pokemon I would be loving the similarities after waiting for an open world game in the franchise. I only played red/blue and watched the anime myself.

Been playing this for a few hours and for early access it feels quite good. I think whats in the game already is worth the £22.50 hoping it keeps getting updates and more. I didnt know anything about it until release and I expect thats the same for most people.

Rememebr its available on GamePass although it seems to be an older game version.

Digimon come to mind with the argument about Nintendo sueing. similar enough but not the same.
palworld devs need to be carefull and im sure thy had some legal advise but ultimatly nintendo wont sue, or if they do it'll be on the down low in case they lose.

the game looks interesting enough so im going to pick it up and try it. the fat the specs are so low compared to some others is a big plus for me.

some quicj maths : 1x cinema ticket costs £12 for a 2hr film. so 2 tickets cost £24 for 4hrs of content..
so if i can get more than 4hrs of content im doing well. when my local cinema was open it was £5. so 8hrs of content.

i think looking at the detail ive seen these's more than 20hrs of content, and i can come back to it later with any updates improvements and hopefully mods also.

Kinda regret the thread title now, but it was back in 2022. :p

I'm been busy, completely suprised that they let you capture dungeon bosses!

Captured a Dinossom outside my base who put up a hell of a fight, but it was worth it, because she absolutely wrecks ****!

All in all, I've been having lots of fun with this and I've only just progressed to metal work.
