Palworld: Pokémon with guns

For anyone on the fence:

Disclaimer, I do no care for EG and feel this is an obvious Nintendo fan bleeding all their bias in to this article. Noting I haven't played it and it may very well be as basic as described.
Thats a peculiarly "angry" review from EG there. Got to say that I personally very much disagree with his take on it, Palworld has good points and it has bad points, things it does well and things it doesnt do well but imo, his take that the game is "absolute rubbish" is way off the mark. Gollum is absolute rubbish, Day Before is absolute rubbish, Palworld isnt. It might be an acquired taste but its not absolute rubbish.

I would not take seriously anything coming out of Eurogamer. They also refused to cover Hogwarts legacy the best selling game of last year for political reasons.

I think the policy by people seems to be not to take them seriously unless you happen to agree in which case they're fine, though that's not specific to EG.

Per @Tombstone comment though, it read like a bitter manchild rant.

Not biased in any way....

@hyperseven I really shouldn't be surprised. What a fall from grace that site has had. Also funny thing, that particular article I tried to comment on and it said it had to be moderated, yet any other article was fine. Could be innocent but seems a bit suss, wasn't even anything controversial! Literally said "This reads as sour grapes".

Post something that people disagree with? That's fine but completely ignoring the best selling game in recent history from a relative unknown studio, a single player game that managed to even beat call of duty? That's just shameful and malicious.

And now this with Palworld? These guys are done.

It's an online publication entitled to their opinion and to write about what they want. You seem to be taking it to heart to a bizarre extent.

I don't think a (probably) flash in the pan game is going to be their undoing lol.

Even Dig Foundry seem to distance itself from EG, thought they were the same company  In the Starfield review Richard made it clear that they are separate entities that publish text on the same platform.

Last time a game was this popular on steam an entire genre that still dominates gaming was born (PUBG).

What does it have to do with Eurogamers undoing though, I don't get the link.
I don't see how you can compare the two either because from what I've seen this is just an existing genre. It doesn't do anything particularly new. Mind you, not sure what PUBG does differently either compared to other battle royale, never played it.

PUBG proved the battle royale format for computer games and was rapidly cloned or used as inspiration for more battle royale games, the most successful being Fortnite.

Of course PUBG can't complain that it got "ripped off" since the battle royale format is, the involuntary murder game from the novel... Battle Royale.

Dayz predates PUBG which obviously has a lot of influence into PUBG.

I like one of the comments on a vid on the subject

"The guy that compared the 3d models between palworld and pokemon already confessed he manipulated the models to make them look similar. He did so because of fictional animal cruelty in a game. What a moron."

But it did claim exactly that...?

Can't complain as in lack of ground to stand on. Their legal whinge was withdrawn a few weeks later.

But I'd be incredibly surprised if they withdrew their complaint due to PUBG's basis on Battle Royale. They had an incredibly weak case against Fortnite, but not specifically for that reason.

Shock horror, as gaming journo is completely detached from gaming audience. Been some time since Eurogamer was anything worth reading outside of the DigitalFoundry stuff.

The top comment is quite good "Just open a Nintendo logo before playing this game. 5/5 ESSENTIAL."
So true.

Edit: Actually the comments are a better read than the article. It absolutely isn't best game of all time, but it's fun doesn't cost a lot and doesn't immediately demand money for battlepasses or game fixing equipment...
Strangely, the Eurogamer Youtube review is the complete opposite opinion. Glowing praise. :|
