There's simply nothing like playing a great FPS on a great gaming PC.

However, Nintendo totally cracked what console gaming is about with super smash bros, Mario Party and Warioware... oh and streetfighter! Button bashing and shouting at your friends. The Wii had the added bonus of no cords getting in the way when you hurl the controller at said friends.

This, I remember the great wars well. And then later on when I had an Amiga, it was Amiga v's ST and Megadrive v's Snes, Gamegear v's Lynx. etc etc

Thankfully no-one was actually killed.

Just like has been said before. It happens with most things now as many people care as much about if people think they have the 'best stuff' rather than if they enjoy the actual device. People try and convince themselves and therefore others too, that the gadget they have is the best.
In reality in most cases there is no 'better' or 'worse' in things like apple vs android, OSx vs windows, play station vs Xbox, people just want to be considered to have the best (like kids in a playground) and so argue about it. Very sad really.

I concur. I've never been a Nintendo fan. I had an N64 once, but only ever played OoT and Golden Eye on it. I had a Playstation briefly before the N64, but all I played on that was FFVII, Destruction Derby, Alien Trilogy and Die Hard Trilogy. Consoles came and went, but I always kept my Megadrive.

I nearly bought a PS3 last week for just that reason. That and some PS3 games that never made it to PC.

The last console I had was a Megadrive, but I'm not evangelical about what platform I game on. I'll only argue if console fans are talking rubbish and probably not even then because there's no point arguing against fans. They're operating on blind faith, so evidence and reasoning is useless. Yes, PCs are far more powerful and more versatile and have better input devices and a bigger choice of them. But consoles play games well enough and have some advantages of convenience and specialisation (except for the Xbone, trollolol!). My only gripe connected with consoles isn't with consoles themelves but with brand-exclusive titles and crappy console ports by developers who don't give a damn.

Why are people talking about specs? They're not important to the majority of people.

It's mostly a question of the games themselves (which is why I think you need a PC and the consoles, or you miss out).
