PC v Mac adverts

A better Apple mac ad ;)

They're so trendy it hurts!
Y'see, that doesn't actually give any real reasons to get a Mac over a PC other than that "Macs are nicer"; it's a pretty but rather superficial ad (the same can be said of most Apple ads).

Here we have it! That is exactly right. Most people who use Macs have previously (or still are) using PCs so we are more qualified in saying which is better. The 'PC boys' who have no clue about macs should really use one for a few months, then comment on it.

/Awaits, 'but I used my m8s and it wos crap!' etc.
Well most people aren't actually attacking Macs themselves, rather the people who use Macs and the arguments used for them (and against PCs) ;)

I don't actually have anything against Macs myself btw; I've never used one myself (at least not in a very long time), but they do look quite nice. I just haven't yet seen any compelling reason to switch to a Mac that doesn't outweigh the obvious disadvantages of doing so.

Heh, how I love the OS X dock.

Thought it would be a bit tricky to get my head around at first, but it works just great. The added bonus being you can just minimise all your windows when you wander away for a few minutes and any nosey passers-by won't have a clue how to open them up again :p

Not great when you think you threw 25 marks away! :o

Maybe one day Apple will be able to create advertisements that sell their products on their own merits, rather than having to constantly try and slate the opposition.

Isn't that what all adverts are meant to do, in some degree or another? They want to convince you that their product is the best product for you; so much so that you feel the need to buy the product.

If your product is superior it is always inferable that other competing products must be inferior.

The most truthful post in this thread to be honest.

All they ever seem to do in their ads is say "PCs suck (not even just Windows) so buy a Mac".

yeh i like the ads for comedy value...

but for advertisement its really poor, its a kiddy argument. Its just for people that have no clue about computers in general really.

People in the know.. know that there are pros and cons to both windows based computers and mac osx based computers...

PC vs Mac... no.. Windows vs Mac OSX

This may be true, but what they're doing right now is working remarkably well for them.

In the case of the Macintosh computer range, Apple are the underdogs. Market share is not on their side, and OS X is not what people are used to. The target demographic for these adverts consists primarily of people who already own a PC (not a mac), so they need convincing. Common sense suggests the convincing should take on two forms — convincing the potential customer that their existing PC does not live up to expectations, then convincing them that a mac is what they need. The "Mac vs. PC" adverts do both of these. It could be done in a more elegant manner, I'll agree, but it's raw common sense marketing.

Insofar as the "one day" argument, I suppose the extensive iPod advertising campaigns are an all-out attack on the Zune / Creative players?

Some of the posts here are just hilarious.

Mac users - Pretentious? Of course not! Up their own behinds? No way!

Can't think where anybody got that idea from.

I've hated macs ever since I was forced to use them at school in the 90s. My sister is at the same school now and they still are forced to use them. She also hates them to the extent that she'll bring her work home and do it on her pc instead.

The best thing about the pc/mac adverts are the amount of spoofs they've inspired on youtube. I would post some link to my favourites but with this being a family forum I'd get banned for sure.

EDIT: Found a clean one

People who haven't owned both should really shut up on this debate.
but the thread's about the mis-leading adverts.

I've never owned a Mac. But I've never needed to feel like throwing 50% extra cash in the bin when I buy a computer. If I wanted to do everything I do on my PC on a Mac I'd have to splash out for the mac proprietery hardware and then pay for windows too because I'd actually like to play games on it.

I've owned my own PC for 5years.
It's never had a virus
never had a lot to do to get started
never had problems sending files
never pulled my pc or any laptop off a desk
can do work and play on it no problems
never had problems with crashing

so the ads are misleading. it's a fact.

get over it you stinky filthy pc users.
us clean mac kids know what were talking about.

reality check

ok so the reason a lot of people hate mac is because ultimately there scared because they don't have a clue about the mac os or the hardware. They know pcs. but dont know macs an until they know there will always be this "fear" from pc users it it always comes out as hate! " i hate macs cos there gay "
" look at spazzy macmagee " oi fatso you have a mac' etc
and its sad..
i know because ive been there. i made that stand. i stood up and said no more pc. enough is enough. never again should i have to suffer the every single day annoyance that is my pc. i said BRING FORTH THE MAC and REJOICE"
and you know what?
they did!

It's strange how people take things so seriously....I love my mac and I love my PC, and there's times when I hate both....then I just boot up Ubuntu :p

I love PC's. I love my macbook pro

I HATE the adverts, they make me cringe when they're on, but then they work which means they sell, which means I keep my job, so I guess I should be grateful :D

It's a shame your mac hasn't corrected all the mistakes in your spelling and punctuation.

I don't hate macs - I just don't need to spend all that money when my PC does everything a mac does for less money.

If someone offered me a mac and a windows license for free then I wouldn't say no. But I'm not going spend all my money on a mac when I could spend half my money on a perfectly good PC.

Macs are good.

I used them for two years working at the paper, now I'm back in a job with them again, and or a few months my only machine at home has been a Mac Mini.
Great machines.

Windows PCs are great machines too though - and so are Linux machines.

There are plenty of good OSs about, pick your favourite and shut your whining, sadsacks.

Aye - it'd be brilliant if Apple started selling Mac OS X as a standalone OS
