Pentagon releases UFO footage

Here's a question for you all.

What if aliens wanted to come here to live as their planet has died. The deal is they clean up our mess and give us technology in return for sharing our planet.

Depends what you mean by "clean up our mess".

Solve the Israeli/Palestine conflict. They can start with that. After that, get all the chavs out the house and working. The two things are of near-equal difficulty.

If a race is truly capable of interstellar travel then it's extremely likely that space-faring vehicles and habitats would be totally self-sufficient. The idea of needing a planet or a planet's resources comes from limited human thinking and being currently stuck on the surface of a planet that we experience as a relatively flat plane, where post-scarcity has yet to be achieved and different nations or groups compete or cooperate to varying degrees for the limited space and resources available.

I'd be fine with that hypothetical situation, but the devil is in the details. What exactly is meant by "clean up our mess"? How many of these aliens are there? Presumably very few, since they'd be coming here in spaceships and they needed a planet already suited to them and they couldn't afford to be picky.

It would have to be the case that they couldn't afford to be picky or else they wouldn't need to go to the trouble of solving humanity's problems in order to be able to live on Earth. They'd just keep looking for another suitable planet, one that would be much less trouble for them. Or one that was close enough for them to be able to change it to suit them. They have interstellar travel, so their technology would have to be amazing. Terraforming should be within their abilities. If they could build ships capable of interstellar flight, they could build habitats to live in while terraforming a planet to suit them. They probably wouldn't particularly need a planet.

Such imagined alien beasts might have to be non-carbon-based life-forms to withstand the rigors of space radiation - which may confer a life-time length advantage - they might be dawdlers.

This might not be the best point of reference given how unreasonable we humans are but, imagine that during the Mars exploration we find a not yet discovered side of the planet with life, creatures and construction etc, less developed in intelligence and technology than humans. Imagine that those creatures are in conflict and killing each other, what would the human race do? what would be ethic and unethic?
Similarly, imagine we had the ability to time-travel, would you go back and resolve conflicts? avoid catastrophes, etc?

My point is, we might be been watched but a higher intelligence choosing not to intervene ;)

Indeed. And I will buy a beer for the first individual that invents cold fission.

E. Since that would fit nicely with a science fiction short tale that occurred to me in 2017. Tho I do miss Quantum magazine.

Or they have intervened we just don't know it and for some reason this is the best version of events. If you just do everything for someone they don't necessarily learn the significance of the lessons along the way (though that doesn't mean you shouldn't do anything at all either).

Relatively small ones that directly affected me? Yeah, I'd probably cave and try to "fix" some of those..

But, for example...would I try to stop Hitler? I would definitely want to, but I'm afraid that another country/group, lacking the Holocaust as a reference, might end up committing worse (against whoever). Who knows...maybe if I somehow managed to prevent WW2 from happening, maybe nuclear weapons would've came at a pretty similar pace anyway, and, lacking the destructive references of WW2, maybe the US and Russia would've "went for it" i.e. try to quickly take each other out with nukes..

I wouldn't blame aliens for choosing to not intervene at all.

Everything on earth is likley to be toxic to aliens or at least not compatible with their biology, they would need to kill everyhing.. It would be less hastle to fix your own planet or a planet at the nearest star that's in the right orbit..

Also they need to find us which is not that easy.. Our signals are only 100ly out and very weak.. If there is life within 100ly you hit some massive Fermi paradox issues like where are all the other civilisations..

We're so far away from interstellar travel that we'd be a curiosity to aliens at best. At worst, a future threat they can easily deal with now. Like a termite nest under your floorboards. I reckon the first we'd know of aliens would be a rock the size of a small mountain heading to earth at a good percent of light speed to sanitise the place

Aliens would be so far ahead of us to even reach us that their planet would probably have a propulsion system :P people always think they need ships.

they could just move another planet into a better orbit of a sun too it makes no sense to presume they look for habitable planets.

you could just live on a giant space ship forever flying around space mining when you need to etc

Oh I see this thread has now gone straight back to full on aliens speculation. Well if we are doing that them my thought has always been that if these are from elsewhere they would be computer controlled probes, they aren't going to have people flying about in them.

The wife and I saw a UFO about 10 years ago, was the size of a house about 300ft away black metallic and shaped like the old fashioned whistling kettles like a half bell shape.
