People waiting for your car park space

I generally let people out of side roads, it doesn't cost me anything and improves the flow of the world.

Except Audis. I never let them out as punishment for their appalling standard of driving.
100%

However you get docked 1000000 man points if you let people out of side roads when there are no ******* cars behind you. The side road person could have been just as fine if you had flown past. Happens so often that a moron lets a side road person out when I am the only car behind them for ******* miles.

Though there’s a couple of service roads drivers use near me to bypass the busy road parallel to it. When at the junction of main road, I try to stop at a position where any driver using the service road can’t get in front of me.

Do this to BMWs as well. Called them *** FULLY STAR YOUR SWEARWORDS! *** at them before

This! As the driver waiting you're expecting that car to go by at 60mph.
Then it doesn't.. Why.. They are slowing down. Do I pull out? Or not (the age old question).
Might end up pulling out just as they speed up!

So annoying

I'm always utterly stunned at how few people let anyone out of side roads
I find myself doing so less and less often the longer I've been driving. More often than not I'll slow down for them way in advance or change lane and they don't take the opportunity so I just stopped bothering

I wasn't sure how fast they were going
Calculating velocity should be part of the theory test

I think I got the first and the third profanity, but the middle one has me baffled.

Rhymes with....?

If I see that people are waiting, I tend to get in my car and drive off as a courtesy. I can do all my other stuff elsewhere like a loading area or something. If I have a parking ticket which still has time on it, I'll usually offer that to them too.

Then again, I find that being considerate to people around me ends in much more pleasant interactions with them rather than annoying them for no real reason.

I mean, thats just common sense. In Audi drivers defence however, i'm pretty sure they don't have indicators installed and you do have to pass a pretty strict test to make sure you drive like a complete bell end before they will sell you one.

Usually happens here once or twice a week for me. If there's someone waiting to pull into my space, I'll usually shift out of there asap and will pull over off somewhere to the side if I need to sort out a couple of bits before actually heading out of the parking lot.

I deliberately take ages in such situations.

I bet you’d do that even if you were in a hurry to get somewhere too, wouldn’t you?

This happens a lot at new Polzeath not only is it a free space (nearby car park £8 plus IIRC) above the beach with easy access but an amazing veiw and base for.the day.
I will usually wait for a Local before I drive away, no way some upcountry townie with a roof box is getting it

Edit, this is tounge in cheek BTW I'm a Yorkshireman

I thought that you might be a Northerner, when you couldn’t spell tongue, but
how does one recognise a local from a visitor if he hasn’t got a roof box?

I have paid for my 8 hours parking I will damn well sit in the car 8 hours to get my money worth.

Some of you don’t think that he’s serious, do you?

One dangerous and really annoying thing I had not long ago was someone letting me in on a dual carriage way . They slowed down. Obviously I didn't pull out as I wasn't sure how fast they were going. This nearly caused a mini pile up. When they went by they had the cheek to glare.

Why do people do that. Causes so much confusion.

Most people who intend to courteously let someone out, ease up and give a short flash of their headlights.
Unfortunately this can be misinterpreted by the uninitiated as stay where you are, I’m coming through, this can lead to confusion as well.

I was a passenger in my son’s Mercedes some years ago, when he turned left out of Portugal St. into Kingway near Aldwych, central London and accelerated away.
The nearest car coming from the right was maybe 80 metres plus from the junction, and not going fast, but he sounded his horn and gesticulated.
My kid, looking in the mirror, said “What’s his problem?”
I said, “Think about it, you’re visiting from Germany and you’ve got Bielefeld plates, he’s driving a Vauxhall Viva, he probably feels inferior.”

Don't mention the war.... ;)

I was once sat in my car in a busy multi storey and was making a call before driving home. A woman pulled up expectantly, I did the head shake and pointed at my phone, but she still didn't get it and walked over! She said "Are you leaving?" To which I replied "No, I'm on the phone, but the lady opposite has just started her engine". "Meaning?" She demanded. "Meaning she's likely to be going, and leaving a space for you park", I replied. The cogs whirred, the penny dropped, she thanked me, the lady drove off and she got a space.

Some people!

Edit: just to add, I became an accomplished space hunter when I used to commute into town, and could hear a car start from a large distance, like in the movie terminator.

It kinda is...you only go when you're 100% certain...ie don't assume they're doing the speed limit or have slowed down cos they flashed their lights etc
It's not that hard to judge the rate they're approaching at, the distance they have left to travel, compare it to what you should know your own vehicle is capable of and then judge how much time you have to make a maneuver and gather speed
