People waiting for your car park space

I started ranting at her about why the hell did she have to park there, of all the places but she looked at me like I was a bit mad
That's because people who rant about where you've parked in a public car park generally are a bit mad.

I don't get how you guys in decent cars don't get stressed about squeezing into the small spaces and picking up dings ect, I was a nervous wreck when I bought new back in the day
Edit /have used a dent puller guy and he was awesome, real old school £30 a dent or £60 a panel ish iirc

That doesnt work, I always park at the nigh on empty far end of the car park but when I get back, there is nearly always someone parked next to mine, even though there are rows of empty spaces. I dont know what it is, perhaps safety in numbers? Who knows. I returned to my car once and a woman was getting out of her car parked next to mine where there was loads of empty space all over the place. I have noticed this too, been in shops at all hours and parked in the middle of huge empty spaces, when I come out there are cars all around so tight you can hardly open the door.

I Don't think I would chastise anyone for it though lol.

It’s about time car park bays are made wider. Even the multi storey car park at the large hospital near me, opened 5-7 years ago has narrow bays. So whenever my dad takes either myself or mum to there, we get out before he parks into a bay.

Cars are wider now. Even house developers are not accommodating wider cars for garages. My parents have a VW Golf. They can park their car into the garage of their 2004/5 built home. But they can’t open a door to leave the car.

Even in the mid 00s, I had a flat with garage built in 1980 and had the same problem as my parents with my Y reg Corsa.

I'm always utterly stunned at how few people let anyone out of side roads when I am driving
I used to drive in central London, in the City and the West End on a daily basis and although the roads were absolutely jammed, people were really good for letting cars in from side roads. I think most people realised that it helped keep the traffic moving.

When I moved to where I am now, that was the thing that struck me the most. Hardly anyone would have any courtesy and they never let people pull out from side roads. It was really frustrating.

I was so psyched yesterday to use a parent and child space. My little one is 14 months and I've never spotted an empty one before. So much girth

I park as far away from other people as possible. Most people are too lazy to walk the full length of the car park, but I'd ok with the extra exercise to avoid door dings.

The only car park I don't need to do that is my local Costco - the spaces there are sized for white van man.

To me, its like using a urinal next to someone when there are loads spare, its weird, just dont do it :o

Sadly since using parent and child spaces, I seem to have had more knocks from trolleys than I had from cars when parking in regular spaces. As P&C spaces are typically so close to the front of the store, it's in the main thoroughfare of folks with trolleys and of course, parents who are letting their kids push the trolley to a parent & child space by yours.

Thanks for pee'ing on my parade. Back to the end of the car park I go...

This happened about 3 years ago in Brighton.
I was driving slowly by the sea looking for a parking space not far from the pier. I stopped and indicated left because a car was about to leave the parking space. As the car departed I was just about to move in when suddenly a car in the opposite direction sped into the space. I was disgusted, but drove on and found a space about a mile from the pier.
Either I am a calm well-mannered individual or an idiot.

Ha ha, you might have better luck than me. I'm aware of all the marks on my car and definitely had more appear once I started using P&C spaces.

I still use them as for convenience they're great, especially when your child is younger and you need a pushchair.

Yeah, but you wouldn't have it out with the fella whilst you were both having a wee :D

Haha probably not, starting a fight with pee going everywhere is probably not a good idea, although I did jokingly have a go at a work mate once about it before.:D

Take advantage of the fact your little one will be waking you up at 6am and go early ... far less likely to get knocks when the place is deserted. We were there at opening time a lot when my girls were that age.

Yeah, I've had someone do this to me before as well, best thing you can do is move on and hope one day they end up doing it to the wrong person and end up with slashed tires.

This is a good point, our shopping has got earlier and earlier since we had a child 4 years back.

A lot of delivered shopping lately due to covid, never before 9AM though, heard it upsets the fragile folks.

This thread is a prime example of why its horrible to drive in this country. Someone waiting for you to leave a parking space in a busy place is not an insult, its not an affront to your person, they simply want to park. Why on earth are some people acting like ******** because people want their space.

If I am in a busy car park, finished putting fuel in the car and its busy etc I get out of there as soon as I can so someone else can use the spot I was in.

I'm always utterly stunned at how few people let anyone out of side roads when I am driving and this is probably the same people who would take extra time in a parking garage if they knew someone was waiting for their spot. These ***** can be rolling at a few mph up to stationary traffic and they still won't let someone out. Baffles me.

Difficult to see how anyone can argue with this, you sound like my brother from another mother.
Reading a lot of the posts in this thread it would seem that a lot of posters see themselves as Crusaders, and every driver that they encounter when they leave home is one of Saladin’s Muslims.
As a Black Cab driver, I was no doubt thought of as one of Hitler’s right hand men by London’s civilian drivers, and a selfish one at that, but if I was in traffic and someone was waiting to come out from a side street, and the only move that I could make would block him from moving, I’d hang back and wave him out, seemed the only sensible thing to do to me.

as an addendum to this, do you give your parking ticket to the person waiting if there is still a lot of time on it? I do.

If i've returned to my car and have at least 30 mins or more left on the ticket, i'll normally have a glance around for someone heading off to buy a ticket and offer it to them. Have had plenty of folks do it to me as well, just paying it forward.
