Philips 20" 200W6CS Widescreen TFT LCD

I think this Ghosting your are talking about is evident even on a CRT monitor or TV when a camera pans and even on a 50hz one.

I think Tearing is easier to see than Ghosting on a TFT and thus Ghosting shouldn't be something you should worry about greatly, as after a while, you wouldn't even notice it anyway, especially if you're really into a game or film.

This Philips TFT looks and sounds the biz. I'll have to save up for mine.

I have used an Apple 20in TFT for a short while and going from a 15in TFT to the Apple 20in was fab. Films really do look brilliant at this size.

I am thinking about getting this monitor, can anyone who has this monitor please tell me if the monitor has an option to display 1280x1024 and 1024x768 resolutions with the correct aspect ratios of 4:3 with black borders (i.e not stretching the picture to fill the screen).

I know that the monitor has a 'fill with aspect ratio' option in the menu system, but I am not sure what that setting does.

Thanks in advance

YES it does !!!

Just changed the res in windows to 1280x1024, and select Native mode.

You get only the center 1280x1024 pixels displaying the image, if you select filled with aspect, it stretched proportionally still with boarders.

This is in native mode.

When you say Native, do you mean it as sharp as 1680x1050, or how sharp is it?

Native means using only the resolution of windows specified, so it's 1:1, not stretching of any kind. hence 100% sharp.

I understood Native to mean the max resolution the TFT was made to display.

If a 1280x1024 17in TFT was set to display 800x600, it would not be sharp, it would be soft.

Yes, since it's only using 1280x1024 pixels to display 1280x1024 pixels. Hence the photo shows boarders, on both sides, and if you look a little closer, there's a small black boarder at the top and bottom, since the monitor has 1050 res verticlally, so there' are 13 pixels at the top and 13 pixels at the bottom that isn't used.

And like i said, it's 1:1. 1 pixel displaying 1 pixel.

Well now I am impressed.

Thanks for that.

:)

How do you set it to display Native in Windows and can I do it on my 17in 1280x1024 TFT?

What gfx card are you using?

I am impressed too ! lol, had no idea it can do that before i bought it, took a risk, hence the big YES when i found out that it can.

And what do you mean by Native in Windows? The native mode is on the monitor's option by hardware. Using an ATI X800XTPE.

this has certainly sold it for me now!, means you don't have to worry so much about the older none widescreen supported games, just run them at 1280x1024 native mode :D

Yes I'd guessed it was the Philips TFT software option that was doing it.

It's a bit like the 4:3 and 16:9 options you get for a widescreen TV.

Do the other widescreen monitors do this I wonder?

Thank you very much for that much need information. I was one of those who purchased the Xerox 19" but sent it back because of the confusion with the panel.

I also purchased the Belinea 20" widescreen, but also returned that because of a fault with the screen (blessing in disguise).

Thanks for the responses, I most definetely am going to purchase this monitor now.

Thanks again everyone. ;)

Raymond?

When you drag the cursor over, say, the blue of this forum do you see a slight loss of sharpness in the trailing edge of the cursor?

When you track the cursor with your eyes?

Depends how fast i do it, if it's really quick, no, if its slowish, no. but a little if i really really look for it However, to be honest. It's no different when compare to my 17" 8ms TN panel Acer, since i can continue to drag it across the desktop to both monitors.

Cheers mate, very hard to be subjective on this sort of thing isn't it? :)
