Philips 20" 200W6CS Widescreen TFT LCD

Sweet sweet and sweet.

I'll get photos up tomorrow asap :) ...I can't wait.

I can try a wide variety of games so I'll be able to comment on them and if someone advises me of a good hosting site I could maybe stick some videos up.

I guess Gibbo is the only one who can answer that... :)

Hi Richdog. Please contact the shop directly if you want tio ask about offer prices and the likes. I received your RTM but please note that this is not the way to ask questions like this, and Gibbo does not receive them anyway. Thanks mate :)

Overall I'm not too impressed with my unit. The viewing angles are very poor compared to my old Samsung 191T and it sits too low down when placed directly on the desk (no chance of getting a centre speaker under there). I plan to mount it on a gas arm which should help resolve both of these issues.

Oops sorry mate I didnt know how to contact him directly, im so used to PM systems that I get lost without them. :o

no worries. Gibbo doesn't have a lot of time to come on here really, much better to try and contact the shop by webnote or phone if you can to discuss stock issues and prices etc. Thanks

topgun, sorry to hear you're not liking the screen. Viewing angles should still be good, any chance of taking some pictures from above and below? (or anynone else with the screen) showing viewing angles?

I ordered this screen today (twice infact as the first order went awol) Once I get it I'll try and get some photo's/Vids to help anyone else out who might want to purchase this monitor.

The main things that sold it for me is that native resolution, running it at 1280x1024 and not having it streched!, great for all the none widescreen supported games. There didn't appear to be much backlight bleeding on the pics above either. Also the DVI/VGA inputs, so i can have both me PC and Xbox360 connected without having to keep swaping the wire over!

Depending on time tomorrow (and if it arrives ok tomorrow) I'll try and get some pics put up

As you can just about see in the photo, there is a very distinct purple haze when viewing at an angle. The effect is much more pronounced in real life. Will try to take some better pics. It is exactly the same on the dell 2005fpw that I have which leads me to believe that they have the same panel.

that's odd. It certainly looks like it uses the same panel as the Dell 2005FPW from recent posts, just an overdrive version of the same panel really. Viewing angles are normally very good on the IPS panels, the Samsung 191T uses a PVA panel btw.

topgun, since you have the 2005FPW and now 200W6CS, i would be very interested in hearing a comparison of the two. Is there actually any difference in gaming or responsiveness? Have you got pixperan (its a pixel response program) you could run to show the responsiveness and compare the two?

I tried that pixperan program and I couldn't work out what I was supposed to be doing with that flags test and it was giving me a headache. I can't see any difference between the two monitors in desktop/dvd use except that the backlight is slightly more even on the philips. Unfortunately I don't have any games to test with. The viewing angles are exactly the same.

did you buy it from OcUK as well Topgun? I was wondering if LG.Philips have actually done anything to the panel really. They may have added some overdrive to it, but fundamentally it is the same panel underneath. Whether this overdrive has been done well, or whether it actually makes any difference is what i'd be interested to hear. You are in an ideal position to test it though :) What about dragging some windows around, measuring text blur? also some fast moving scenes in movies?

My Philips monitored has turned up today, I am very happy with it. In fact I think it is just about perfect.

No dead pixels, great viewing angles, hardly any backlight bleeding. It does a great job of keeping the correct aspect ratio of non-widescreen games.

Just go into the menu and set it to 'Fill with aspect ratio' then the monitor will do everything for you. For example, if you choose relolutions such as 1024x768 and 1280x1024, then the monitor will display black borders either side without stretching the picture.

When you switch from a non-widescreen resolution to a widescreen resolution, then the monitor will automatically get rid of the black borders either side and fill the screen.

If you want a non-widescreen resolution screen stretched, then just change the settings to Fullscreen.

This is without the best monitor I have ever had and I strongly recommend it to anybody who is considering buying one.
