Pirates Ahoy!

After several BSOD's on my quad trying to assign 2 spare cores to the cause and gave up. It was easier to go upstairs and borg one of my son's PC's.

After 8 Compute error's it now seems settled. Fingers crossed.

Yup - what he said. It'll give your RAM a real workout, and the CPU won't be far behind. My laptop absolutely hates it - 99C

No no.. not seti.. Rosetta! Arrrrrrrrrrrhhh.....*cough*

Hi,

I may just switch temporarily but I really want the 1 million certificate to arrive first.

I had been absent for a while (almost 3 years) but restarted in December when the Cuda client came out and sparked my interest again, my account then was stagnant at 297,000. Now I have 932,023 with 91,112.61 pending so technically i'm there but i'll believe it when that bit of paper arrives.

Having a look at Rosetta now, anything I would need to know before setting things up re specific clients for xp64 or GPU etc?

Cheers, Simon.

No specific projects. Add Rosetta. Go.

If you fiddle with resource share you might get SETI and Rosetta running together. Worth a try, for the cause. :)

Edit - just noticed - three quads? Oof. :(

I had seti and rosetta running together for years. Only just suspended Seti while the current panic is on.

A pirate walks into a bar with a paper towel on his head. The bartender says, "What's with the paper towel?"

The pirate says, "Arrr! I've got a Bounty on me head!"

Yaarrrgghhh. We're not THAT dense over here. :D

Nice to see this thread coming along. Good on ya mates.

Damn Rosetta - my credit is all over the place! 1st column cpu time, 2nd claimed credit, 3rd granted credit, no overclocks and all stock apps! looking through my results, I have no wu's that have been given the claimed credit
Cant wait till we have destroyed those mangy, scurvy ridden pirates and I can get back to seti and milkyway@home

Sabotage, anyone? :D

Some of us are just cranking up to speed. I will be looking closely at the stats tomorrow. ;)

Having said that we could do with some extra help... *looks at magman and bigstan*

Brief question related to Rosetta memory usage:

Just looked at the Task Manager and noticed that PF usage - for which I assume PF is 'Page File' - is currently up to 1.44GB. I have 2GB RAM in this system, but does the PF usage indicate that I could do with more? With SETI running (four AP v5.03 instances) it's at 782MB.

If you're running Vista, don't worry about it. Vista likes doing that and it isn't a big problem. However, you may want to change the amount of memory BOINC is allowed to use (the default 50% can be a little low on quad-core systems with only 2GB RAM), and/or instruct BOINC not to keep suspended tasks in memory.

Its much more sensitive to overclocks especially on the memory.

The BSOD's i had a couple on my quad (overclocked to high heaven) but i also got a Shed load on my sons STOCK new build (xmas) PC.

He had 8 coumpute errors, i bumped up his Ram from 1.8v to 2.0v, had a few more compute errors and 1 BSOD, so upped it to 2.1v.

Anyway, if/when it is stable for a few days i will set about tweaking it as im sure there some tweaks about to gain a few extra points.

Nice! Good job you've done there

Let's see where it gets us; I remember past recruiting drives helped gain us a few more members, albeit most didn't last.

Not quite good enough though. I think I scared a few people off with the wall of text. I've inserted a potted version at the top to help.
