***** PlayStation Vita Official Thread *****

I took my vita on holiday with me and it got plenty of use. I am playing through metal gear solid 1 for the first time, which has been fun, and I am finding fairly hard compared to modern games. I have had to restart as I missed out on the thermal goggles and I understand that will make things tougher later on. (if you don't find the pistol in the truck by the helicopter landing pad, then you find find it in the tank hanger, and permanently miss out on the thermals.)
The game I got into most was Olli Olli, I bought this a long while back and kind of bounced off it having played it for 10min, but on holiday I properly got into it and my God is it addictive. The flicks & spins have given me a small white blistering on my left thumb, of the type i haven't had since using the nes dpad!

I've picked up Persona 4 again, wimped out and put it on Easy though.

Lots of and lots of games that don't interest me one iota in that list, but a few I might keep my eye on.

Do you guys play many PSP games on the Vita? make use of the remapping X, O, Tri, Sq to the right analouge stick for shooters etc?

So we finally picked up a copy of Borderlands 2 for the Vita. Think the reviews were overly harsh on this game, it looks and feels great on Vita. Have to wonder what people expect for a handheld gaming device tbh. Lot's of unjust criticism in reviews imho.

Borderlands isn't as good as it could have been. I still get issues with it crashing(which isn't good when you're playing an anarchy based mechromancer) and the frame rate is subpar when i'm in the thick of it. I would be happy for them to reduce the detail further just to get the frame rate higher, sometimes it seems to drop below 10 fps for me and after years playing on a pc at a steady 60fps I just cant handle it :p It's a shame as it has the potential to be an excellent game with a lot of replay value.

In one playthrough I think I crashed at least 15 times. They did bring a patch out which improved things but I don't think they will release another patch to improve the performance further as its been months since the last patch

WiFi. Also, it is the retail version as opposed to downloaded if that Could make a difference (doubt it). Another thing I see mentioned is the menu being very slow to respond, which is something else I haven't found... Though loading does take a while.

When did you play it? Maybe a patch has come out since?

I played it yesterday, I have a physical copy of the game on a 3G Vita. I hadn't played it for a few months before that as I still had problems after the last patch and I was hoping a new patch would have been released by now to fix the issues I still had, it didn't :p

I also have menus that are slow to respond.

Is there any downside to buying a Vita in the US? Also is there any specific model that i should go for or are they much the same. I know there's an older model that I'll probably have to buy second hand in the UK but is that worth doing or not ?

By all accounts the OLED screen of the original Vita is better than the LCD of the slim model. If you can get the original one new or nearly new then I'd look into it.
