Plusnet Discussion Thread

I still cant believe that upload :(

That for an ADSL circuit but I wouldn't expect that on a fibre circuit package

I phoned them and asked but the tech guy said he couldn't do anything, he is arranging a call back to see if maybe some deal can be done on the upgraded package.

EDIT: They were trying to palm me off saying my line couldnt handle more, erm, yes it can, I had 22mbps on LLU, I had 69-70mbps down and 18mbps up on my old package and the line is 333m as the crow flies from the exchange

right, I am about to move house, I am currently on fibre with plusnet. but my new place wont be on fibre, but the area is infinity enabled so I am on the waiting list when more capacity comes.

so my questions:
1) as I am in contract and plusnet is going to offer me a lower service can I use that as excuss to get out of contract and get something from someone else? currently they are quoting me a £180 termination fee

2) if I stick with plusnet on the crap adsl line, what is my likelihood of getting fibre. plusnet is saying BT Openreach has a max 3month waiting list. this sounds like BS as I had BT in my current address for 4 years when they promised me that fibre would be installed in 6 months and it wasn't until 18months later I got fibre. however the difference was that my current address 4 years ago didn't have fibre at all. so they had to install lines and exchange. whereas my new address has fibre line and exchange already installed and it is a capacity issue.

It depends. If they can't provide an equivalent service at the new address then that's not your fault. However it's not their fault either. They can't control whether fibre is available.

If the cabinet is already fibre enabled then it should just be waiting for a slot to become free. People move and downgrade all the time. If the cabinet doesn't have fibre yet then what does the Openreach checker say? Www.superfast-Openreach.co.uk

there is definitely fibre in the cabinet. as a matter of fact, I can order fibre lines with all of the FTTC providers and I have made inquiries with BT and Sky. they all said yes, there is fibre but you can't have fibre today as the capacity is full and we will need to put you on ADSL and wait for more capacity to become available.

well 3 months wait is not too bad, I can live with shabby net for a bit as both mrs and me have decent 4G coverage and crap load of data a month should we need tethering.

My plusnet should be going live tomorrow - I can see the username I need to connect the modem with, is there a password or is it not needed?

Edit: nm, found it now...

I got caught out by that as well when I signed up to PlusNet last year. They changed from 40/10 to 40/2 without much PR and I signed up expecting 40/10. Suppose it serves me right for not fully reading the small print when signing up!

Fibre went live today. Router is syncing around 75 Mbps down and 19 Mbps up but when I check on speedtest.net I'm getting 7.5 Mbps down and 18 Mbps up :(

thats amazing basically free internet for nearly 6 months

I am currently with an ISP that has foreign support, I had a few questions about the offer and started a chat session with Plusnet CS - they connected in a couple of minutes and were really helpful - I could literally feel the difference between UK support and the substantial stress you feel when you have to deal with foreign staff.

I've been with Plusnet before and I'm considering an early contract termination and returning.

I'm plugged directly in. Even the plus net website says estimated 70-80Mbps, current 8Mbps.

Tried rebooting the hub? If not just do it once, if it's still the same, give it a few days and see if DLM ups your line profile.

If still the same I would report as a fault to Plusnet, could be a genuine line fault, or just a DLM issue that needs clearing and resetting.

Call Plusnet in the morning, your line is stuck on the ADSL profile at their end. I've lost count of how many times this shows up on the community forums.
