Plusnet Discussion Thread

I've always max synced but atm I'm stuck at 66.9 MB/s, tried a few reboots and even a reset and no luck.

PlusNet as helpful as ever "Your speeds are within acceptable range", I then ask why if my max sync rate is over 100 MB/s is my line not capable of the 80 MB/s advertised speed and I'm told "FTTC cannot go above 80 MB/s sir" which is obviously the limit imposed by openreach for the profiles, FTTC is certainly capable of above 80 MB/s. That wasn't really my point anyway, just the fact my line is more that capable of running at full sync like it has done for years on Infinity and all of the time up till now on PlusNet...

Getting through to them could be a bit quicker!

15 mins on hold so far, and had a history of getting disconnected after a wait.

My dad is being told his broadband is now going to be live on 21st April, when we ordered last week wednesday

I know they bow down to openreach but thats a long wait.

i just ordered this. Just the 40mb dl and 1mb upload for £11. + £16.99 line rental for 18 months. Is that good or better deals around? (ive been with plusnet for 2 years and am currently paying £27 for bog standard broadband + lr)

edit: is it possible to just keep the router i have atm. Its mostly been fine had hardly any disconnects.

Do you know if they actually physically change your post allocation in the cabinet?

Interested to know if a FTTC to FTTC provider change would entail a DLM reset.

Well BT own plusnet and plusnet do use BT's back end infrastructure to provide services which means all the equipment at the exchange etc. So going from BT to Plusnet i wouldn't imagine would require much change other than mainly accounts. Still probably takes ages though.

If your router can handle VDSL you can use it, otherwise you'll need a VDSL modem/router. Plusnet will send you the Hub One(VDSL) as part of an 18 month FTTC contract.

Probably the best financial deals come from BT with Infinity 1(40/10 not 40/2), they pay huge cashback together with vouchers and a 12 month contract e.g. £100 prepaid credit card + £160 cashback.

Cashback at Topcashback or Quidco.

That's a bargain. Cant work out at more than about £130-140 for a years worth of fibre connection even including any activation, line rental and router delivery fees.

Switched to Plusnet from Sky a couple of weeks back, sync speeds have dropped from ~65 meg down to 47. I haven't rebooted or reset the modem in this period for fear of upsetting the DLM.

1. Assuming the line can still handle 60meg+, and the drop isn't due to a different allocation at the cab or something - should I sit tight and see if DLM will relax a little and it should start to go back up again - or can Plusnet do anything to reset it?

2. I do need to unplug the modem for a while over the weekend to decorate, is there a way I can do this without DLM kicking in further and dropping the speeds any more?

My contract has been up for some time now but haven't had chance to get round to haggling a new one. Looking at maybe lowering the speed to 38mb as for my needs I don't really take advantage of the full 76mb, as I only stream and game mainly.

- Don't know if I should stick or leave for the likes of BTInfinity1? 38mb unlimtied/£10 a month fibre/£17.99 a month phone/£49 activation/£100 BT reward card/12 month contract.

- Or I could stick with Plusnet, which to be fair has been pretty much faultless. 38mb unlimited/£10 a month fibre/£16.99 a month phone/24months.

Any alternative/better offers peeps have got?
