Plusnet Discussion Thread

Really? That's pretty horrific only 2mb up oO

Funny the agent didn't mention that one crucial point on the phone.

Thanks for the heads up.

Quite possibly. Not sure why you'd need to renew in the first place unless you're just after a discount.

I believe Plusnet will actually be paying for a 80/20 connection as Openreach never offered 40/20 as an option.

When I joined PN 3 years ago my IP Profile was 77.44 Mbps.. Now it's down to 62.81 Mbps. Is there a problem with my profile? My download speeds are about 55 Mbps on average now.

Just been on PN Chat and was told it was basically down to too many connections in my area.

well my fibre package should be live today (11 days after ordering as a current customer)

i got an email confirming the upload (2mbps) was live and i tested it and thats fine. The download is still on my old broadband speed 11mbps. Hopefully they will be doing something to sort that. Will leave it a couple of days. I have 14 days to cancel without incurring a penalty hope that is long enough time. (should be getting 40mbps dl)

My contract has been up for some time now but haven't had chance to get round to haggling a new one. Looking at maybe lowering the speed to 38mb as for my needs I don't really take advantage of the full 76mb, as I only stream and game mainly.

- Don't know if I should stick or leave for the likes of BTInfinity1? 38mb unlimtied/£10 a month fibre/£17.99 a month phone/£49 activation/£100 BT reward card/12 month contract.

- Or I could stick with Plusnet, which to be fair has been pretty much faultless. 38mb unlimited/£10 a month fibre/£16.99 a month phone/24months.

Any alternative/better offers peeps have got?

Ehhh? How did you get £10 a month for the 38mb fibre option? Its 14.99 no? I guess you managed to get a deal over the phone?

edit: ffs i shd have checked more closely...the bloody agent gave me a "deal" actually worse than the one adverrtised on their website ie their standard rate

EDIT2 SKY FIBRE UNLIMITED deal looks better £10 + £17.40 for a year (only 1 year contract) plus you get better upload speeds than plusnet

36 mins on hold with plusnet :/

triple edit: im losing my mind plusnet agent deal smidgeon better. i think i will lie down!

I have been with them for almost 3 years and my speeds were a solid 8.8mbs. The last few weeks they have dropped also down to about 6.7mbs. I haven't contacted them yet so hopefully they can sort it. I will be annoyed if its due to "too many connections in my area".

Still can't get the 13mb back on my profile, been told the speeds are within BT guidelines so nothing can be done, seems to me like they're capping profiles lower due to over congestion in the area. Similar reports on their official forum.

Crosstalk within the cabinet.

Having router troubles here

I have the plusnet router, since I connect through the Ethernet, but the last couple of months I'm having massive issues with the wifi when gaming on the xbone.

The router is on the ground floor and the xbone is on the 1st floor directly over it, maybe a couple of feet to the right if i'm being honest, and yet lagging online, ping really high and getting disconnected from games and chat. It is really frustrating. This doesn't include all the problems with the connection rpoblems with laptops

Can anyone recommend me a replacement router?

Are you using the Hub One?

It's a good idea to either disable the 5GHZ wifi if you aren't using it, or change it to a different SSID than the 2.4Ghz network. The two sometimes interfere with each other.

Nah we've got the Plusnet 2704n... so don't think those options are available.

Does having the 2704n mean that you have a separate Openreach VDSL modem?

Yep, i have the openreach modem connected to the socket and the router. it also has an extra lan not in use.

It looks like the 2704n uses the Openreach modem bremen1874

W1lliam, do you have any old ADSL Modem/Routers knocking around? If you've got something half decent you can set it up with the Openreach modem via the WAN port and let the ADSL modem handle the PPPOE connection, assuming the wireless is better in this unit.

Eh, i don't think i do...

I probably have some old sky router/modem or an o2 one in the basement somewhere but the wifi module on these would be really dire compared to the 2704n let alone anything new.

The extra lan on the VDSL modem is useless to you, unless it has the 'hacked' firmware on it allowing you to view the stats (assuming you've got the Huawei HG612 unit)

Plusnet were pushing firmware updates to the 2704n a few weeks back, it might be worth getting in touch with them to see if they'll push yours through.
