Plusnet Discussion Thread

DSL light still solid but internet light is going red? This would usually indicate an intermittant authentication issue so the router could have possibly failed or there is some kind of issue with communicating with the RAS.

Can you take the router out from the setup, connect directly to the openreach modem with your computer ( into lan1 ) .

Open network & sharing center -> set up a new connection or network -> connect to the internet -> Broadband (pppoe) -> enter your [email protected] and account password and monitor the connection for a few hours and see if you still have any drops in connection this way we can rule out a problem with the router or the connection itself :-)

That modem is pretty big!

horrorxpunk, do you know of any known issues with using the DrayTek Vigor 2850n instead of the openreach modem?

I've already got that router and it's all nicely wall mounted so would be nice if it still works properly when FTTC becomes available my way.

An engineer has just come round to fix our phone line. He said it wasn't connected properly at the green box down the road. He said this probably caused the Internet problems. If I still have problems then ill do all the things you've suggested :).

Amazing customer service from plusnet!

Unfornutely I have only spoken to customers using draytek routers and not their own routers, so I don't have any experience with the configuration. May have to ask Bob about that one, however I am on hols. I will try email someone at work :-)

Great news, I hope they didn't charge you then as the fault was at the cabinet? I know my master socket is hanging off the wall and that's never been a problem :P

In general guys would you be happy if I set up a Plusnet faults thread and gave advice on any problems that you mite have? As this thread is mostly for discussion and I am sorry for turning it into a massive Q & A :P

Is it me or does the plusnet service actually look bloody amazing? I am not even due to go live with my FTTC order until next Wednesday but I have just come across the "your questions" part of my account and every minor detail seems to be posted on there that I wasn't even aware was going on.

Must say very impressed so far, If the FTTC service is a good as their customer the switch from Sky seems to be a very good transition

My internet lost connection again earlier so I'm doing the fault checker on the website. Right now I'm at the step where I plug directly into the modem to see if I lose connection this way. I'm trying to get onto the next step of the fault checker but the PlusNet website keeps giving me an error.

Is it worth getting a HG612 modem or any other unlockable modem? What are the benefits of doing so besides getting line stats? Can you tweak them for some extra speed?

Can you not get the stats through your router via telnet or does this not work when you have a modem connected to a router? I normally telnet into my billion to see everything
