Plusnet Discussion Thread

Thinking about switching from BT infinity to Plusnet as BT is offering me rubbish renewal deal. Just wondering what is the best way to go about things and was there any down time in service.

Just ordered a TP-Link TL-WDR3600 N600 for a very nice price and even got a TP Link TL-WDN3200 N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter chucked in for free.

Once isntalled, I shall enjoy taking the Technicolour router out into the garden where I shall proceed to destroy it with a mallet.

What's your main gripe with the TG582N? Wifi performance perchance?

Well i've got too much connected to it for it to cope and even when I am not maxing connections, I get dropouts on both the wifi and the wired connection. Plusnet stated there was nothing wrong with the line, which was my initial worry so I started checking out the router everytime is dropped and the connection lights were indicating it had lost connection. When it works it is fine but every evening I get 5-6 drops and have to wait for it to reconnect and I is slowly driving me crazy, expecially as I will be gaming again soon with BF4 and it will lead to rage.

And yes, the wifi range is pathetic. I won't reach to the garden which is most annoying (not so much now but in the summer).

I did manage to saturate the wifi to the extent the wired connection failed last night!

It says max 4 connections and at times I have two phones, one tablet, one laptop and a sky box all over wifi and my desktop which is wired. The bare minimum connected is at least three and it just cannot seem to cope when they are all downloading.

Router compatibility and PlusNet fiber

Hi, I have PlusNet fiber with the router connected to the BT Open World box.

I have been offered a DrayTeck Vigor router from work, I don't have the model number to hand but it was originally used for ADSL. It's an advanced router however that provides VPN etc.

Can this router be used to replace the PlusNet router that connects to BT Open World box, or does a router have to specific to work with BT Open World eg not a router that was once an ADSL router.

Cheers Jason.

It has to support pppoe and allow one of the LAN ports to be used as a WAN port. Get the TL-WDR3600 me and PapaLazaru were talking about for £41

If it's a dual WAN model then it'll work; the most likely options are 2820 or 2830.

If it's a 2820 you may find that it limits the connection speed.

Pike and Bremen, thanks for the information I suspect the DrayTec i'm referring to won't do this

Re the TL-WDR3600, do you know if you can change the routers own IP address? I ask as I connect to work via VPN and without being able to change the routers IP address to a different one than work I have conflicts with internet access.

Yes.

Hi guys, I'm on the look out for a replacement router for the standard Technicolor on Plusnet Fibre. Reading the comments above, it seems that the TL-WDR3600 is the recommended replacement.

My question is how simple is it to setup for a relative networking noob like myself?

Hi folks, anyone want the credit for recommending plusnet to me? I am about to sign-up to broadband and phone with them.
