Installation date was the 5th of May so I don't actually have my router yet. I had to complain to Openreach to get the original date brought forward.

I don't actually care if a router is installed or not, as long as the modem works fine, I can do the rest myself.

Yes Chris, you'll only have one password for plusnet, that does the website member section, and also is the one for the DSL connection.

I've had my plusnet FTTC for a week now, very impressed (I'm a longterm plusnet adsl customer), only thing is it was a little too quick for my old Core2Duo, and was the perfect excuse to upgrade to my new i7 3770k system!

I'm interested to see how the FTTPod pans out over the next year, not worth the installation costs now as I'm in a rented flat, but if I buy next year I think it'll be a good upgrade depending how it pans out.

Is the fibre extension kit essential the same as the BT ADSL extension kit that I already have?

The one I've got would be difficult to replace as its in the wall!

The kit I have is the 'BT NTE2000 ADSL Extension Kit' and the cable is a 30m, 3 pairs but CAT5e spec with a RJ45 wall box for connection of equipment (which will also accept RJ11 plugs)
 
They will most likely be installing an independent openreach socket for the FTTC connection, this is where the extension cable runs from. It is usually placed near the telephone master socket. Are you on ADSL at the moment?
 


Very happy. Ping looks great too compared to BT Infinity.

Just a shame that this area isn't 80/20 yet, any idea how I find out when it will be?
 
That all depends on openreach I'm afraid Milano, when they upgrade the cabinet I am sure you will be notified. But a lot of upgrades are happening in the next 2 years :-)
 
It's better than tethering off my phone so I'm happy enough and I don't do much downloading these days. Just nice to have the extra oopmf when you need it.

I've got a mate who plays Call of Duty on his xbox while tethering off his phone and he is still pretty damn good. But I'm trying to nudge him onto plusnet asap.

Found out FTTC isn't availiable in my area so I am stuck with Virgin at the moment, I really want to move over to PN after hearing everyones positive reviews here.

The OR engineer said 80/20 isn't available in this area yet? I'll get onto the modem later on and have a look, what's the IP of the standard OR modems?
 
You can't log into the Openreach Modems anymore they cracked down on that, but I had a lengthy conversation with a customer who said that the older models you could and were highly configurable but a quick engineer visit and they were all replaced. Basically the modem would have to be unlocked. the only way to check is by us doing a FTTC knowledge based diagnostic tests. It would allow us to view the Sync rate, configured rate and BRAS profile on the line and overall throughput on the line.

I have the older model that I 'jailbroke' about a year ago.

Telnet ? :P So your downstream rate indicates a 46mbps sync. Now we provision on 80 / 20 as standard anyway now so maybe pop a ticket to pn and get them to raise your connection profile :P
