it it were for a less significant amount (say, under £75) then i'd say pocket it, but as its so much money, handing it in is the right thing to do.

Best thing to do is not hand it in anywhere, but give supermarket/police your number so that the person that has lost said item/money can claim it off you. That way if no body claims it, then the rightful person gets to keep what they found (and be safe in the knowledge that you have done the right thing), the original owner has the same chance of reclaiming their item as if you handed it in.

If you ever give anything in to shops/police they are making the same moral decision as you are, and not everyone makes the right choice.

this one ^^

Would hand it in.

I actually found £60 on the floor just outside our local village post office.
handed it in - on my walk home i met the guy that lost it with his kid looking all over the place :D

he was over the moon once i told him i found it & handed it in at the post office.

I would hand it in or at least try and get it back to the rightful person, I have been in the same situation and handed things in before and I have lost a few things, mobile/wallet and always got them back, so what goes around comes around.

One day you might lose something and you will never ever get it back, just think about it.

Aye the is no greater feeling then telling someone you have found thier money/phone.

Shocking statistics - 63% would pocket it :(

I'm hoping its internet bravado, coupled with younger members who don't really know the meaning of money who have voted to pocket it.

That £200 could have been a frail little old ladies savings she has just drew out for her Christmas shopping.

In the supermarket, I'd have handed it in - karma and all that. If it was my money I'd want somebody to hand it in. If it was in the street, I'd have just kept it.

Plus it might have been some set up thing. The CCTV cameras could be checking. Go back in and see if there's 'another' £200 quid lying around.

I think if it was a tenner, I'd keep it.

If it was, as you say, £200; I'd hand it in to the police - certainly not a checkout assistant. If I was the person who had lost the money, and I went to the police station and successfully retrieved my property, I'd definitely find the person who handed it in and give them, say, 10%-25%. If they hadn't handed it in, you'd have nothing, so it's only decent.

Imagine their shame when the read the next week about it in the local Paper and everyone was having a collection to replace it down the local pub.

£200? I'd hand it in. Most folk are going to hurt losing that kind of money. A fiver, or a pound coin, or something of that ilk, I'd probably pocket unless I saw someone who'd obviously dropped it, or someone looking for it.

Indeed, I'm disgusted, albeit not surprised.

I found a wallet packed full of cash outside the football ground once, handed it into the police that were by the side of the road. Heard the announcement before the game for him to collect it. We won too! Good day all around
