Pokemon GO! (2016)

Does it make any difference if you use a google account or the pokemon trainer one? I started on google because the trainer one was unavailable during the first day.

As far as I can tell no. I actually forgot I had a pokemon trainer account (due to 3DS) but using Google is a lot easier when logging in on Android since it links with your Google account on your phone.

afaik Niantic haven't said how many servers they have or which countries they are in, so am curious how some sites and twitter accounts seem to claim server status. I am sure they are just using anecdotal evidence from user feedback (or they just want clicks on their sites!!)

As for the server issues, I am guessing it is not helping that all these maps etc are popping up. All of them are querying the server(s) a lot using APIs, which can't be helping with load issues. I suspect that if people were not hammering the servers in such a way some functions (I assume) would not have been disabled. The map of where you caught the Pokemon and the footprint radar have been turned off since the issues (I doubt it is a bug).

Finally, I don't see the target audience giving up on this in the near future. Adults/veteran pokemon players are complaining a lot and trying their hardest to "cheat" the game and over analysing it. On the streets I just see kids walking around playing happily and having fun. I don't think it's a coincidence this was released during the school holidays (in most of the world).

Just copying from Silphroad, but tips for catching spawning Pokemon:

Good useful information!

Why is there no official server status page?

Ingress never had one when I used to play that. However, I think with the amount of active users Pokemon has (atm)they have and the hype over the game they should have one or at least update their twitter. At the very least it would stop the millions trying to login repeatedly whilst they are trying to fix/identify issues!!

Having said that, how useful would it be? Every server staus page I ever see (apple, xbox, psn, ISPs etc) never admit servers are "fully" down. More often you just get a "some users may have trouble signing in" or something vague like that which wouldn't affect their reputation as badly as "none of our x million users can login at the moment". :D

I've been out for lunch, hanging around where I see group of kids playing PoGo, aand all they talk about is playing, going home to charge phone, meeting at such pokestop, rinse and repeat. So no chance for those who have full time jobs and social lives. So, I am all for dissecting the game and playing it scientifically! :o

Reading that Reddit thread is eye-opening. I've checked out my journal and the spawn times appear to correlate, but will pay more attention tomorrow. I try to keep the game running at my desk on battery saver, but easy to miss vibrations when a pokemon spawns.

Same as every game really, Call of Duty, people with more time get to ridiculously high levels within a week of release that those of us with full time jobs just can't compete with.

Don't get me wrong, I have never played a pokemon game before this so it's actually the science/maths part that is most intriguing to me. Personally I like the idea of people gathering the info on places like reddit and sharing it. I think the maps and stuff querying the servers will just unbalance the playing field even more and kill the discovery/random element, eventually!

But for now I'm enjoying it a lot!! I have caught over 100 Kabutos in the last 2 days!

If there isn't a way to combat cheats the game becomes pointless

I will not be using any maps etc. But if it becomes obvious others are this will die in days.

Niantic needed to milk this in one summer. But seems like it's beginning to come to an end already

Servers down all the time
Slow updates
People cheating and no obvious solutions to it

Shame really

They can fix the maps thing instantly, i'm certain, and that may alleviate the server issues at the same time!

Long way to go, i'm sure.

Japan release will probably add 10 million players, then sponsored pokestops, then the £30 pound armband (why haven't they released this already!!?!?!?!?!). This is still going to big (if not bigger) when schools start again in September (which, in itself will cause more problems of a different sort!)

My Best is a 776 Hypno :( and that I evolved and powered myself

What am I doing wrong?
