Political Correctness Gone Mad Again

Whilst social media can be used as a force for good it's increasingly being used as a force which is causing harm. It no longer appears to matter what your political or social views are, the way they are being responded to on social media websites is nothing short of disgraceful. I think this is likely to continue until your identity can be clearly verified before you are allowed to post on social media.

It's not just social media however. Sadly more and more people have no concept of how to conduct themselves in 'real life'. The bullying and rancour being levelled at those in public life is quite frankly appalling. As an example, I don't agree with the vast majority of what Jacob Rees-Mogg has to say, but I do defend his right to say it. The manner in which he was heckled and man-handled during his speech at Bristol University was sickening to watch. I have to assume these 'thugs' have no social skills to enable them to enter into political discourse other than boorishness and violence.

A very worrying development that if not stamped out will come to damage us all in the long run.
True. People are no longer willing to engage in civil discussion, they have become completely polarised and it is now an inevitability that they will turn to violence.

You said "they cannot provide an impartial point of view", specifically referencing the grid girls themselves rather than it being a commercial decision.

What I said was very clear, although I'm happy to quote again as a memory jog for you.

Turkeys don't vote for Christmas, that's the point. It's irrelevant whether they have other revenue streams, the fact they do the job for financial gain means they cannot provide an impartial point of view.

You then insinuated that I was taking about radical feminists, which I clearly was not. My point is clear; the Grid Girls are not impartial in the debate.

Is there actually evidence of a femanist group approaching the board of directors and marketing and voicing their dislike of portrayal of these women being paid to do what they do?

Or did F1 just wake up after some financial and marketing research and think, we literally won't lose anything but gain the possibility to attract a larger female market share than previously, obviously, in a male centric sport?

Do you honestly think anything they do isn't in the persute of more money. This is a fantastic opportunity for to them to break a female market that has been previously seen as nothing more than sexual accessories.

My god the world will be so glorious in 2100.

:P

Darts removed their walk on girls after "talks with broadcasters". One might assume that the broadcasters where the ones influenced by feminists groups and applied pressure to the darts organisation.

Formula 1 bosses have just seen this and jumped the gun to avoid any bad PR. They will have preferred to weather a small storm from disgruntled fans than be attacked for being "outdated"

I've not heard of any vocal feminists calling for it, and the statements mention talks with sponsors and broadcasters.
Which suggests they've been discussing ways of making it appeal to a larger audience and what puts off some of that audience and worked out that having it portrayed purely in ways that appeal to men is probably not great for getting something over 50% of the total possible audience.

So it's advertising revenues and money and getting with the times basically.

Not quite pc gone mad....

One might assume that, or that the broadcasters have done their market research and realised that they are not getting many female viewers, then asked questions as to what puts them off.

It's rather telling that the F1 decision has come after a guy who ran the sport for decades (and grew up in the 40's) sold it to a company that is more interested in making money than running it as a (profitable) pet project subject to his whim alone.

It's a little like the various comic books shops, wargames, and computer games companies that have realised that by simply making their product a little more appealing to the female customer they're suddenly making a lot more money. Apparently the comic book stores with a no nonsense harassment approach etc are doing better than the ones that make the female customers feel uncomfortable, and thus where there is a choice of stores getting both far more female customers in person, and often their partners who might otherwise have gone to the other store (who knew making customers feel comfortable helped sales).

It's almost like companies follow the money.

I would say so. No-one wants to be the last bastion of gratuitous eye candy, except boxing... For the time being. :D

In the bigger picture, what we are witnessing right now is really just social evolution. It's generally a very gradual process, but recent events over the past year have acted as catalysts to accelerate the change.

It's times like these when you realise that there is no right or wrong, just acceptable and unacceptable. Evolution simply happens.

What I'm looking forward to is what they replace the Grid girls with as when it comes down to it, they'll still need someone to hold the number to indicate grid slot and another someone to shade the driver with a brolly (19 races against sun, British GP rain) and if men get the job then wouldn't that be something to discuss :p

Most likely one of the engineers.

Then they will complain that the women got replaced by men. Can't win either way :p

Indeed but I stand by my points. My two points were that if they are indeed so desperate for this job then they are likely to now be forced into a ''worse' job. My second point is that other people have no right to decide for them whether they are allowed to do this job. I thought we had progressed far with equality in this country where women were free to make their own career decisions. But it appears that's not the case and some sectors of society want to restrict women's choices. We seem to have regressed.

So how do you suggest helping such desperate people to find 'better' jobs and why do you feel some people have a right to prevent women choosing their career?

Broadcasters go with the market and what advertiser's want.

They don't just cow down to "feminists"

Broadcasters like most contemporary commercial enterprises will often 'play it safe' when it comes to 'social justice issues' because they have seen what radical Marxist groups can do to their bottom line.... Whether it's feminsts shutting down cinema showings or radical black Marxists shutting down retail stores over a perceived racial incident which was a big load of nothing...

Let's not try and pretend that these changes were the results of the majority of the customers for the products concerned (for example.... 60% of respondents to a BBC Sport said 'grid girls' should be part of Formula 1.... and that was before the Pdc decision.... and yes i aware that the result is for people that bothered to respond to the survey not necessarily the customers of F1 ) ...

it's business playing safe as they fear what radical priest action or at least the twitter mob will do

I doubt that many broadcasters have the same level of terror as you exhibit over "Radical Marxists".

. . . over a perceived racial incident which was a big load of nothing . . .
You are an arrogant so-and-so aren't you? Who are you to describe a picture of a black child modelling a hoodie with the slogan “coolest monkey in the jungle” as a "big load of nothing"?

. . . it's business playing safe as they fear what radical priest action or at least the twitter mob will do
"Radical Priests" have got in on the act now have they?

I have no idea why you have introduced the word "desperate" into this discussion? The F1 management are under no obligation to ensure these women find employment elsewhere, any more than e.g. banks are under any obligation to find work for previous employees now that we all prefer to do our banking online. Things change, and as far as F1 Grid Girls go, the position is now redundant.

I have never said that some people have a right to prevent women choosing their career. I wish you would stop inventing points that I've made just so you can argue with them.

Can't either link to load :(
@ hades.h
What could be a worse job than appearing world wide on television and being paid to "hold an umbrella" being desired and wanted by probably thousands of .... Ok last point is bad.

My job is worse than F1 girl... 1000x worse.
They literally got paid to do nothing but exist, smile look appealing to men?

Sarcasm btw. Unless you mean they will be forced into sex slavery or possibly some other normal modeling job?
