The connection has been dropping on my DG834GT so much more frequently since I regraded to f2s ADSL Max, it's so frustrating. It's not even the most reliable of boxes at the best of times. Speed has been good though, when it's working.

Before MAX. I was refused a 2Meg connection by 3 ISP's,, and eventually settled for a 1Meg Adsl.

My 1 Meg always said Attentuation DS 7.5DB, US 6.5
Noise Margin DS 34db, Noise Margin US 37db

I tried for a 2Meg regrade.. they refused again.

Finally upgraded to ADSL MAX. Synced in at 8128 first go, and it has not dropped the connection a single time. I have noticed that I get a few FEC, and CRC errors if the phone rings, I guess the 50V ring signal is causing some interference, but talking on the phone seems to have no effect. Even if the phone rings, the error rate is low enough that the router doesnt bother to disconnect and try again.

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin : 11.0 30.0 db
Line Attenuation : 7.0 4.5 db
Data Rate : 8128 448 kbps

The SNR margin seems to fluctuate from 9.5db to 11db, but I dont that the modem's measureing system is 'that' accurate. Its not like its a 20 grand line analyser :).

Funny thing is, a few days after upgrading to max, BT finally got around to updating the database record for my line. It now says I can have 2Meg standard ADSL, and its removed all mention of the warning that I have an excessivly long line. (as you might guess from my Attenuation figures.. The telephone exchange is just 1 street away from me, approx 150 meters)

Several, including BT Internet. I even called my office BT account manager (I have several ISDN30's and E1 circuits where I work), and they wouldnt help either.

I know quite a few cases where the Database has been inaccurate and nobody at BT wants to know, and the ISP's wont do a thing about it. Anyway its a moot point now... As installing MAX seems to have kicked BT into updating the record at last anyway.

Any decent ISP (BT Internet doesn't really qualify) can, will, and does get the database changed, and the alternative's emailing MrSaffron at ADSLguide, who certainly does have a good record of getting the record changed. So somebody at BT (Wholesale) certainly does care.

Got my regrade today (BT), so far so good:)

Here's what i'm getting atm:

Download speed of over 650KB/sec on my wireless iMac and PowerBook and over 700KB/sec on my wired XP machine. Hopefully it'll stay like this:D

Reading this thread got me interested in max dsl. Im currently on 1mb i have regraded to 2mb before and it was not stable so i regraded back to 1mb. I would be happy with even 1.5mb on adsl max if possible.

Please can someone talk a look at my stats and give me a guess as to what i should be looking at speed wise.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1152 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 54.0 db 28.5 db
Noise Margin 18.0 db 25.0 db

From looking at this it looks like my noise margin is quite bad, but should i be able to manage 1.5mb? Does the line improve at all by going to adsl max?

Cheers,
