33 - If we had stayed in our last house we would be mortgage free however we decided to upsize. Best thing we ever did.
Lucky for us we timed the market right, couldn't do it these days

Do not want to rent (ie, pay off a strangers mortgage for them)

27 Years old, been renting since I was 22 and moved out.

I'd love to buy, I could afford the monthly cost of a mortgage, just don't have the deposit.

Saving up to get a ~20% deposit whilst I'm on detatched duty with work over the next few years.

27 - Renting

Saving up for a deposit but it is slow moving. Could afford to buy a house in a less well off area but trying to save up for a house in an area I would be happy living in for the foreseeable future.

The poll options don't apply to me really.

I live in military accommodation, so I pay next to nothing for my rent/bills.

For this reason, I'm planning on buying to let towards the end of this year and using my situation to my advantage.

24 mortgage,

Never saw the point of renting, because for the xxx amount you pay on rent, you can get a mortgage, how many of you are paying less than £310 a month for a 3 bedroom place?

A guy I work with is paying £500 a month to rent a 1 bed flat! His mortgage advisor said he should look into buying a house, because for £500 a month he could get a decent sized place, even with a 2nd bedroom.

Only think is, the guy I work with is an idiot, he's not shopping around for a decent mortgage rate or anything, he's just sticking with his current bank. I pointed out to him that he could get a decent sized 2 bedroom house a lot cheaper than £500 a month and he looked at me as if I was talking a different language.

I tried and failed to explain that for £190 less than he's paying in rent I've got a 3 bedroom house, with a conservatory and a massive garden

34 - Renting for the last 6 years. And now I'm not willing to buy while prices are so high. I have a large deposit and could afford a mortgage, but don't want the debt. The way I see it: every £1k saved is £2k less to pay off on a 25 year mortgage.

Renting in London is even more retarded, for a two bed flat in the same area as mine, you're looking a 1,600 a month. I'm paying a bit less than that for monthly mortgage payments.
