Used to have a mortgage untill 2001 sold up,spent the profits, got new mortgage, prices rocketed couldn't afford new prices, mortgage offer lapsed, got made redundant, couldn't reapply, stuck now renting:(.

Although this country obsession with buying is a bit silly, people taking mortgages out that they couldn't really afford.

About to start renting, looking to buy in the next 2 years (my company provides incentives if I buy within 2 years of starting in Aberdeen).

I never had much of a choice in terms of renting - I couldn't get a deposit down. So unfortunately I had been renting for a considerable amount of time :(

However, on my way to a deposit at the moment, and cohabiting, so able to save a bit more. :)

32, Mortgage.

Bought our flat five years ago after renting for eight years. Currently moving up to a three bedroom house. Should be exchanging contracts next week :D

25 - Rent.

Basically dont know where ill be working long term so renting is a better option atm, dont want the hassle of getting a house and then having to rent it out (cant be bothered with this) or having an epic commute.

24 mortgage,

Never saw the point of renting, because for the xxx amount you pay on rent, you can get a mortgage, how many of you are paying less than £310 a month for a 3 bedroom place?

A guy I work with is paying £500 a month to rent a 1 bed flat! His mortgage advisor said he should look into buying a house, because for £500 a month he could get a decent sized place, even with a 2nd bedroom.

What a lot of people fail to understand, is it's not the monthly mortgage payments that stops a lot of people buying a house, it's the deposit. If I had a 5 figure savings account I'd possibly be able to get a house, as it stands, I don't.

That's perfectly fine for those lucky few whose parents are in a position to do so.

If I wasn't in that lucky position, on my wage I couldn't even afford to move out lol

26 Living with parents used to rent private. Back as full time student now so skint.

The prices of houses these days I wont ever really own one. Just hoping to get a job after course ends and start renting some place but im in no rush.

31 and I have a mortgage with 25 years remaining. It started off at 30 years but I've been overpaying to bring it down.
