On May 7, 2014 the Home Secretary Theresa May brought forward a bill to deprive those fighting with ISIS of their citizenship. The legislation would allow if

… the Secretary of State is satisfied that the deprivation is conducive to the public good because the person, while having that citizenship status, has conducted him or herself in a manner which is seriously prejudicial to the vital interests of the United Kingdom

… them to be deprived of their citizenship, lose their passport and become stateless. Essentially exiling those fighting for ISIS.

Whilst what was put forward is good on paper... I have to wonder how it would work. Isn't it illegal worldwide to be stateless.

Additionally how would one take the passport. Before they go somewhere like Syria or when they come back. If you take it from them whilst boarding the plane then they will only get put on a return flight... They wouldn't get past check out on the other side.

If you take their passport upon their return... What then? You cant send them back to a country if you have taken their passport.

Plus what country will want to take a known British born terrorist and keep them there. Like i said.... Sounds good but how would it really work? No more depth here then Theresa sound bites.

I have to say ... When I was at university ... If I handed in any of my essays as much work put into it as Theresa May does her policies and plans I would have failed every subject

More out of context rubbish, Firstly they voted against it because they were in favour of the decision being referred to a joint committee and not the Secretary of State, as did David Davis (as above). Secondly the 1954 UN Convention on Stateless Persons and the 1961 UN Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness which prevents governments from making their citizens stateless, both of which we have ratified. We already had legislation to strip dual nationals and it remains to be seen what legal stance we would have to make someone stateless, irrespective of emotional sway (I believe we should be able to).

She is the actual PM and has to govern regardless of the election - the fact that comrade corbyn is extremely weak on defense and security is not her fault.

Govern - yes, do a speech in response to Saturday - yes. Spend most of that time scoring political points - No.

in the interests of debate I think the mods should lock this thread to all until lolscorza posts an apology thread saying he was wrong about the Met police running away

I am convinced Scorza has everybody asking on ignore......................

Watching the bbc news, pressure really seems to be building up on May about the police cuts while she was home sec.

To be fair she just has to open her mouth to score points against him.

I take it you agree he was in the wrong with his sunday speech then?

The hounding of scorza is getting pretty pathetic.

he is being hounded for telling lies about the police running, he is belittling our police that look after us everyday, therefore he can end this by simply coming out from his rock and admitting he was wrong.

So it should do. She can't blame other people now, the cuts happened under her watch, at her direction and the police who questioned her decision were derided by her. She's only got herself to blame.

People can criticise Corbyn on defence all they like but the current PM is not whiter than white, nor is she 'strong and stable'
