Bear with me, I may have to adjust my cape...
They can stick as many stickers as they like on parked Porsches, they wont ever take Porsches core buyers.
I don’t know what constitutes a core Porsche buyer, I honestly see more Cayennes than any other Porsche and a good chunk of them are diesel. Plenty of Porsche owners bought a GT-R, and I’m pretty sure the reverse is/will be true.
Whilst i salute what Nissan have acheived with the GTR on a technical and price point level, i would take 'A Porsche" let alone a Turbo over the GTR any day of the week.
I’m not asking you to answer these question, but have you actually really considered the scenario? How many GT-R’s have you driven in comparison to 997 Turbos? You’d happily take a C4 over a GT-R based on back-to-back drives? I’m not questioning your experience levels with these cars, I am just surprised you would not entertain the GT-R.
They have loads of electronic trickery so are brilliantly capable machines from what I understand, so are great, but they are no Porsche...and I am not a fan of Porsches.
As above, really. No, they are not a Porsche. It’s a Nissan. With a lot of electronics. Like a lot of Porsches.
Just seen your edit, most Porsche people i know dont really care what other people think, i know im past caring.
I’d like to think that I really don’t care, but I do. If the ultimate GT is released at Geneva and it’s quicker, comfier, better handling than anything else, it’s gorgeous with a stunning interior... but had a Kia badge on the front, was £55k and called the Hunkie, you’d run a mile. Porsche drivers care just as much about image as anyone else.
I think the idea behind the adverts etc. is that 'a lowley Nissan is better than an almighty Porsche' but when it comes to costs, they are similar, so why bother to market the car as if it's 1/4 the price...I just don't get it, silly Nissan.
The costs are similar if you take a base Porsche vs GT-R, the performance is not. To equal or better the GT-R, you have to look at the 997 Turbo. The price difference is then substantial.
That whole advert smacks of desperation to me, if it really raised test drives so what?
One day when im bored enough and i find a Nissan dealer with one in stock i will have a test drive too, just to see what iv been slagging all this time is like, iv got no intention of buying one though.
You dont see proper car manufacturers out sticking stickers do you, bit chav if you ask me.
Nissan market the GT-R as an aggressive car and this is aggressive marketing. But it’s a tiny marketing campaign, in Germany, and it’s bound to upset a few people. This is great because instead of spending millions of $ for 30 seconds of Superbowl exposure, a couple of women in GT-R race suits are probably generating a lot more blog and forum posts about this than the new Beetle ad. It’s quick, dirty and cheap. Like a GT-R
Personally, I don’t like it. It’s intrusive and I wouldn’t want to come back to my car with the equivalent Porsche material on my windscreen. Using two women in a stickered up GT-R is a bit crass and reflects poorly on Nissan.
All’s fair in love and war though...Porsche did their press release on the GT-R which landed them with egg on their face.
What is interesting is that the Porsche marque is an aspirational one, and Nissan are actually acknowledging this and their weakness as a brand. It’s a veiled compliment, the GT-R is pretty much just that...the 911 Turbo is a quick, desirable borderline supercar. Nissan want in on that and have been very open that the Turbo is *the* benchmark. Or was
They are 'common' because of all the models available rather than just the one. It's like saying the Vauxhall Astra is rare because of all the Fords you see around. Not only that but although the purchase cost is low on the GT-R, they are bloody expensive to run. Bump into something and activate the pedestrian safety system, that'll be £11k for some hydraulic rams and a new ECU please.

That small bump cost the owner £11k
No, it didn’t. Like a lot of misinformation about the GT-R, it quickly becomes gospel. His bill was substantially reduced and he got (seriously) a free jacket amongst other things for the mistake. Nissan actually had a release on this specific issue and thread:
"As a company we cannot comment in any detail on an individual customer case. This is a private matter and we are currently in contact with the customer, his insurance company and the dealer to help resolve this particular situation.
What we can confirm is that Nissan has a policy of continuous improvement, and as such is constantly reviewing parts prices, suppliers, and customers***8217; feedback. In this instance, thanks to the comments received, we have discovered a computing error regarding the price of the actuators and this has now been rectified.
Nissan apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused and if there should be any customers who have purchased such components at the incorrect price they will be fully reimbursed with the difference. However, based on the level of product demand we believe this was the first time such an instance has occurred.
The GT-R has been designed to meet the latest legal and safety standards for all new cars. This innovative pop up bonnet system is required as there is insufficient clearance between the bonnet and the top of the engine to comply with the European directive 70/156/ EEC as amended by 2003/ 102/ EC for pedestrian safety.
For your information the bonnet system only operates if the bumper is hit in a certain way and under a series of strict parameters. Not every time you bump the bumper, or if the vehicle is stationary."
If money wasn't an issue the Turbo. A decent Turbo S looks absolutely stunning.
A GTR, is hideous. Incredible cars without a doubt but for me their aggressive presence and their 'Chav's wet dream' persona are a stigma.
Also the Porsche is guaranteed to get female attention too
You can’t make your mind up on the GT-R. You pop up pretty much every time it's mentioned. And yes, but I have an excuse. What's yours? Seriously, go back and read what you’ve said about it in the past. Now it’s "hideous". Actually, forget it. Having a normal conversation about cars with anyone who factors in female magnetism as an ownership considertion is always insightful. You should be a lorry driver.
It's a fantastic piece of engineering but lacks character and soul.
And there it is. A GT-R thread just wouldn’t be right without it. PLAYSTATION!@11
Seriously, without being offensive, that is a daft statement.
Looks dated and very 'meh' to be honest )
There are things wrong with the GT-R, and it has it’s flaws, like every other car ever made. It has been called all sorts of things and that’s fine, but dated and bland...that’s the first time I’ve seen that in regards to the GT-R aesthetics.
