Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

If a private seller has explicitly told me the RMS and IMS have been replaced, how much comeback do I have if it turns out they have not been or if there is a technical failure secondary to this? Sold as seen of course, but I believe you're not allowed to misinform when selling. Much more painful than simply taking it back to a dealer, but would like to know.

Thanks!

More or less non. Even if it has been replaced it can still fail. As to see a invoice.

The is a well known company starting with H that upgrade them so there is a much lower chance of failing again.

Any advice for a Porsche virgin? Ive never owned one, but its been on the list for a while now. I had originally considered buying one for keeps, as in forever etc. Use it on a sunny sunday and not do many miles. It would be a 3rd/4th vehicle kinda thing. The budget is 50k.

However, now ive had a proper look online (not driven one yet) I really am considering buying a more recent one (same budget) and running it as my primary transport (we still have other cars to use). Would probably do 8-10k per year. If I did that id cycle it in 3 years time or thereabouts. The more recent in question would be something like 997.2; definatey carbiolet, possibly 4S if I could get one in budget, or perhaps just the 2/S maybe. The 996 looks dated, especially the interior given it would be the primary drive. Really like the wide body look.

Anybody got some advice on either option? other options i havent considered?

Currently driving a 15 LR D4, and before that a V8 S5. For option 2, the wife would get the Disco :)

If getting a 997 the C2S is the better car than the 4S.

But 50k is too much to spend on a 997. Stretch to 60k and get a 991 C2s.

I sold a huge spec one last year for 61k with 2 years warranty and 20k miles.

Interesting on values. I hadnt even checked a 991 as assumed they would be well out of my budget. The strange thing is that even 50k is bottom third of the autotrader for a gen2?

Whats the story on C2 vs C4?

2wd vs 4wd.

The C2S GTS is an absolutely fantastic drivers car in 997 spec. The 991 does lose something with the change to electric steer, but is still a great drive.

Sorry, yeah i knew it was 2wd/4wd but just wondered if it was anything else going on.

May be slight nuances on spec but generally will come with same tech. S has more power and various suspension brake etc improvements as well as more kit as standard and definitely worth going for. Someone will be able to confirm the exact 2v4 but I think as standard they're pret much the same .

If your streaching the budget a little, a Cayman GTS or even a well speced (981) Cayman S and a (987) Cayman R are worth a consideration as they are a epic little cars.

However, i'd recomend driving the different models before making a firm choice.

I was promised the next GT 911 but we just rejected a new car so I don't know if the dealer is still going to be interesting in selling me the special cars.

I've always admired (never driven) the GT cars. That said I struggle to understand the hype. I don't think I know of any other marque that is able to generate epic levels of want / demand.

Are they really as good people make them out to be?

It depends what you look for I guess. If all the bits being about as good as bits get, steering, engine, brakes, driving position, gear change, pedal layout, feeling across the senses then yea, they are about the finest car on the planet at all those bits coming together in a car that can be driven 1000 miles, tracked all weekend and driven 1000 miles back without anything going wrong or feeling different. That is why we buy them and though each one gets a little more tech added Porsche still seems to get the balance right and be the best at what they do for each generation.

If you want faster, shinier, more stand outy then there are many more options.
