Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

thanks for the help all. I need to go and have a look / drive a few.

Not sure about a boxster, even though i could get a newer one for the less money.... maybe its a 911 tax, but a boxster isnt a 911 for me. Wouldnt stop me getting one, but id like to explore the 911 options first.

oh another question..... what are the best options on a 997.2 to look out for? Is there a set of no brainer stuff it really needs, and then some select things which would be nice to haves?

PSE, sports/cports chrono, nav, i think most other options can be retorfitted. Oh only the s's have pasm standard.

Must have
PCM, Full leather, PDC - almost all cars have this.

Essential that some cars don't have. Bose, Sports chrono, PSE, paddles.

Nice to have, 14 or 18 way seats. Cruise

Everything else - bonus.

For me it would have to be PDK

Porsche have lost a lot of respect of late with their actions on new car sales and their network shafting people, such as the OPC who was taken to court for selling a customers car to a footballer who walked in off the street and was seen as more important than their customer who had years of emails confirming he was getting the first 991 RS in the dealership. They have always been superb with GT3 track use, for it is built for that purpose, the ultimate track toy and with a PDK many of the issues associated with track use are removed, that being bad shifts hooking the wrong gear and buzzing the engine. If they are now getting arsey with customers who take them on track or worse, doing the 'ah yes, USA is different' then people will walk. People who buy these sort of cars will deal with it very differently, they tend to be more intense people who will see such actions as a challenge and will fight the good fight.

Poor form.

Was looking to sell my beemer and get a marque I have always admired, Porsche.
Had a test drive in a Cayman and loved it. Am I missing out massively by not saving up a bit longer to go for the Cayman S? Anyone here owned both?
Its not a decision I need to rush, so plenty of time to decide really.

They're great looking cars. I possibly...just possibly prefer the looks over the new model. From recollection you can pick up the 2.7 from about £30k but you'll be looking at at least 40 for an s so it's a fair difference.
For £40k you're looking at the new model price. So it makes the decisions a little harder.

Yeah. They're holding their value very well at the minute. Great for current owners, not so good for someone who was looking at picking up a one or two year old model!

Hence asking the question because the jump in price is pretty big percentage-wise. If it really is worth holding out for the S over the 'standard' Cayman then that's OK.
Obviously I really want the Cayman GTS..:D

I think if i was willing to spend that amount (to be read as, if the gf would let me without leaving me) I'd rather spend it on the new cayman. Saying that though for 40k I'd buy an m3.

My boss has a 2012 991 with PDK, he's wondering if you can turn off the gear change indication when you are in manual mode. We found a link online that shows you how to do it, but his car doesn't seem to have this option. Anyone know if Porsche removed this option in an update or if its now hidden somewhere else ?
