What are you driving? Sounds like a truck!

40 MPH everywhere person vs cyclist :(

Was good thing the road was nice and empty - there was a bunch of people behind me wanting to get past as well. They were doing like 35-38 MPH on the overtake and after the overtake and the cyclist about 30 on the downhill... I'd have been sitting out there for awhile waiting for a decent enough gap to slot in between them blocking anyone else from getting past with a decent margin around the cyclist.

Is the video having a go at a motorist going slow?

Not really having a go - but they seemed to be one of those 40 MPH everywhere people. Obviously sometimes people have things like the engine management light come on limiting them, etc. but they were doing 40 in 30s, etc. but 40 on an NSL. If you are going to overtake a cyclist at least make some good progress on them... by the point I was catching up with them the cyclist if anything was beginning to match their speed again as he wasn't falling back behind me by that point hence I didn't hang around to slot in behind the black car.

Video doesn't really show it but he started peddling again as I drew level - I don't think even the cyclist anticipated the black car going so slowly on a wide open NSL road.

(Despite what it might look like relative to the other vehicles I was driving to the speed limit during that video).

I had a mate who would do 40 on NSL roads and he didn't care about traffic behind him.
On a dual carriageway he would sit in the outside lane at 40 without a care in the world.
Driving down streets with parked cars either side Lewis Hamilton wouldn't catch him.
Proper weird behaviour.

There is a group of 3 of them I regularly encounter on a Sunday night doing the same route - spaced around 100-200 yards apart or so... very frustrating as even at night it takes several miles before you have enough good opportunities to get past them all - on reasonably decent NSL main road as well so not like there is any reason not to do at least 50.

If I manage to get past one just before a village it is amusing as the other 2 make distance on me while the one behind doesn't seem very happy with me driving at ~30...

I've seen it nearly cause a few accidents with people taking chances to overtake all 3.

EDIT: Though some nights they will slow right down to 20 in the villages so not sure what is going on there (possibly a reaction to people tailgating them and/or getting aggressive with them who are wanting to get past while I tend to hang back until there is a good chance).

EDIT2: No joke based on my own video YouTube thought I might be interested in this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbyPlcqz53g yeah I can totally see the similarity.

Hugely underwhelming video but sat behind this Jaguar who did a really odd...civilised... overtake and brake check? I honestly think brake check = instant driving ban, non-negotiable.

I used to work for the MET office and i knew a couple of engineers who were sent all over the country fixing stuff and they had a load of dash cam vids of people deliberately slamming on the breaks in front of them to make false claims. Always worth having a cam running, there are all kinds of scammers about now

I'm nit sure. Imo I'd somebody slams their brakes on and you hit them, you were driving too close. If you leave a good enough gap it shouldn't be an issue.

On the way back he wasn't squashed so he got lucky or changed his mind and decided to stay in the fields.

Lucky. Some years back I was a passenger in a mate's AH3000 going through the lanes around Eccleshall and two of those buggers suddenly took flight from the verge. One hit the windscreen dead centre and caved it in, and the other hit the near side A-pillar so hard that it actually bent it. Scared the living crap out of me.

Anything that hits a car sounds bad. I've hit a pigeon once in the middle of the windscreen but close to the top (didn't cause any damage) but sounded loud. Even stones getting thrown up sound loud (and stones/grit is one that I really don't like due to scratches).

Bloody hell. I've had a few close calls but thankfully never hit anything. I remember one time years ago someone in front of me hit a deer. Poor thing :(, that was a complete mess.

Probably only a matter of time until I hit some wildlife :( do a lot of driving at night and early morning. While not a guarantee, far from it, it seems my truck makes enough noise to somewhat reduce the chances though - an EV would likely increase the chances :(

Had a few close calls though.

Pheasants are lethal. years ago one came out of nowhere, i heard it hit the front of the car. It went through the front grill and its beak pierced my radiator. Expensive repairs, cost over £1000.

Possibly the 3 have been to the pub for a few Sunday beers hence the **** driving.

Years ago in a previous role we had a new starter at work, I used to often catch up with her driving stupidly slow on the A roads on the way home and either overtake or she'd indicate & pull into the grass verge to let cars pass, sometimes in really stupid places. I thought she may have just been a ridiculously nervous driver but she was fired about 6 weeks in to the job as it was discovered that the litre water bottle she was sipping at her desk was actually full of vodka after someone caught a whiff of it & grassed her up, she was driving home tanked up.

 that story had a proper plot twist.
