Anyone give me some help please for the love of moses in the bull rushes. I'm doing my best to follow the instructions from the pdf and I cannot for the joy of mary jane get into the modens cp to upload the firmware.

Stuck the IP of 192.168.1.100 onto my nic and default gateway of 192.168.1.1 (not sure if it's an issue with my ac68u using the same IP or not) Got ethernet lead in lan 2 and tuther end in pc. Held the reset button for 5 secs, plugged the power lead in and waited... Then entered 192.168.1.1 and nada happens.

What am I doing wrong... For the love of snakes on a plane can someone show me the way to enlightenment.

Its really easy its essentially;

Disconect your pc from your switch / router first...

1) Set your network card on your pc to the stattic address 192.168.1.100 255.255.255.0 doesnt matter about gateway or DNS leave them blank

2) connect LAN2 on the modem to your PC

3) Make sure the modem is OFF.

4) With the reset button pressed turn the modem ON

5) Keep the reset button pressed while it boots (for 5-10 seconds)

6) Open a web browser and go to 192.168.1.1

7) You will be given a page where you can upload firmware, simply upload the firmware you downloaded (look at the bottom of the post to firmware link)

8) Thats it really, after the modem restarts your modem is flashed (can take a couple of mins), if you go to 192.168.1.1 you will be given a login page default is admin for both user and pass.

I see that your using a AC68U, they use the 192.168.1.1 for the router so while the modem is still directly connected to the PC go to the LAN page and change the IP address of the modem to something like 192.168.1.253 then when you connect LAN 2 to your switch or router it will not conflict with your Router

Connect the Internet cable, connect LAN 1 to your routers WAN and LAN2 to a normal LAN port.

http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/hg612unlock.htm is a good place to start to read.

https://mega.co.nz/#F!LdJFDIJL!e_E1twsIg2kTet8mPjrb4w in this directory open the folder B030SP08 the one ending in WEBGUI is the firmware i am using

First off, thanks for helping guys but I'm still not able to get into the modems cp. Everytime I try 192.168.1.1 it says that the settings have change on the AC68U even though I have changed the range of the IP on the Lan.

http://i.imgur.com/aMYxUdw.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/Uo4ZHIk.jpg

My onboard killer nic says this now http://i.imgur.com/IBZDosG.jpg

I left your the page open with your replies soI could follow step by step and still no joy.

This is exactly what I did, changed the IP of the Asus (as above pics)
Powered off the modem.
Unplugged the cat5 lead from the asus router and stuck it in Lan2, the other end is in my PC.
Held the reset button down and plugged in the power cable, counted 10 secs and release the reset button.

Came back to the PC and saw the blue circle on the task bar spinning on connection window. It X'ed out, tried 192.168.1.1 and after about 10 secs it said in black text that the asus router stuff had changed.

Can't believe this is so fidly and I know it shouldn't be, seems pretty straight forward but... Oh my gowd, this pretty much has me beat. I feel like punching a tortoise.

Literally plug the cable from LAN 2 from the modem into your PC. Dont connect it to the switch or to the router or anything just a direct connection between the two. It seems your connecting it to the router or something.

Nope, just one cat5 lead from the modem to the PC and everytime I end up with a broken link in the network which alays wants to repair the 192.168.1.100 from the nic. Webpage does not load at all, tried google/firefox and both result the same.

I'm giving up, there's something not letting it through, I mean it's pretty straight forward and I can't figure out what's stopping it. You think the 612 is locked out or something, from being modded or getting to the CP?

I was going to buy the dearer one on the bay which was already modded, but chose the cheaper option, unmodded. Wish I'd gone with my first thought and save hastle and the thing making me look like an idiot. I'm pretty sure if you was here you'd be scratching your head too.

I have also tried with the laptop, and the same happens with that.

Only thing i could sugest would be try a long reset with the modem. I think its holding the reset down for over 5 sec while its on it should restart. Also try clearing your browser's cache and maybe try a different cable?

It sounds like there is a conflict somewhere still with the ASUS router. Can you try setting the ASUS IP to 192.168.0.1 so it's on a completely different range?

Then check you can access the ASUS router with the new 192.168.0.1 IP. If you can then switch off the ASUS router and disconnect your PC from it.

Plug the Eth cable from the HG612's modem into your PC, ensure your PC's NIC on the IPv4 section only, is manually configured to the IP 192.168.1.100, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway 192.168.1.1.

This should work, no reason why it shouldn't! If it still fails or loads the ASUS config change page, try CTRL+F5 to make sure it's not cached. Then if still not working, let us know...

Edit - Also are you holding the reset button firmly in, THEN powering it on while still holding the reset button in for a further 5 seconds? Don't be tempted to hold it in for longer, as it doesn't seem to put it in the update mode if you hold it longer than necessary.

Going to get a Krone tool and move my master socket to the one closest to the BT entry point. Then homeplug between the modem and the router which is in my little network room with my NAS, server and switch.

This is my current speed:

It used to be mid 60's. :(

Will see if I get any improvement at all.

I wouldn't expect it to drop that much overnight if it was crosstalk. In fact I wouldn't expect it to drop overnight as fibre installs are done during the day.

You may have a fault but it's going to be hard to get something done about it as Openreach will say your line is running above the fault speed (which is pathetically low and basically pointless).

Still a small download and upload increase there S2KIP.

Do you have access to post router / line stats? It's probably all your line is capable of.

This is what it was:

Hi there,

Just tried again with no joy...again. This is what I did.. this time.

Cleared all firefox cache, history etc..

Set Asus router to 192.168.0.1 http://gyazo.com/d143af61191f50b8dd9a4344ef42a9f7

Clicked on network and sharing center, clicked Local Area Connection http://i.imgur.com/5Bg0vqi.jpg, then properties, double clicked IPv4 and set that to 192.168.1.100, subnet autofills and put 192.168.1.1 on the gateway.

Then went to the the router and turned it off and pulled the power cord from the modem, pulled one cat5 cable out from the Asus router which goes straight to the PC and plugged that into the LAN2 socket of the modem, no other cat5's in the modem at all expect one in LAN2 that goes to the PC LAN.

Held down the reset on the modem and heard it click, whilst still holding it in and I'm pressing hard to make sure, I plug the power cord back in the modem and count to 5 and release. I come back to the PC and see the blue spinning circle on the task bar connection window, which keeps spinning and leaves me with this http://i.imgur.com/Og1Elli.jpg

what your doing sounds right, the only thing is if your router is not connected you dont need to change its IP address.

The only other thing i could think of is your nic card set to auto negotiate 100mbit / 1000mbit or is it set to 1gbps because the modem only has 100mbps ports so maybe manually setting the speed duplex to 100mbit full would help? Thats the only thing i can think of or maybe your not holding the reset button long enough. Tried a different cable? a shorter one so you can take the modem to your computer.

I doubt it matters but i left the default gateway blank when i did it.

Is the modem working fine as a modem?

try disabling any firewalls / virus protection you might be running

And its definitely a HG612?

Maybe worth asking for help on the kitz forums. here

The router is on a different subnet to his computer, how is that ever going to work? Or am I missing something? Is he trying to put the firmware on the HG612? He needs to directly connect his computer to the HG612, ignoring the router.
