Hey Duchy0, them speeds are really slow for the drive, maybe needs de-fragging?
How come my Hitachi Deskstar 7200/8mb 80gb drives which I bought from OcUK a while back & were advertised as sata2 yet only have the option of sata1 in nforce4/device mgr, yet the Hitachi Cinemastar 7200/8mb 80gb recently bought has the option of sata2 in nforce4/device mgr?
The Deskstar & Cinemastar look identical too.

Is the nforce4/device mgr reporting the sata generation wrong or is the Deskstar really sata1 & OcUK claimed them to be sata2 in error?

I have defragged the HDD to the bone with no luck and i'm not just using the XP default either. Have a look... http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17740321

Maybe this explains my slowing booting up times (5 minutes) and loading of applications. Is my HDD on it's last legs?

Maxtor 250GB - SATA 2 - 7200rpm

Check your drive isn't in PIO mode, I was getting similar speeds when my drive went into PIO mode due to a few controller errors.

Go to your device manager, right click your right and click properties. Click the advanced tab & check the mode. If it's in PIO mode then right click the drive again, click uninstall and reboot your PC.

Here's my SATA I Maxtor 200GB - HDTach long test:

I have no 'advanced' section to choose from. Can you tell me exactly where to go? I'm going to device manage and disk drives; right clicking properties but no advanced tab comes up.

When you right click and click properties on your drive there'll be an "Advanced Settings" tab.

Strange pattern in hd-tach (I used long bench 32mb zones) for some reason.
