Post your hard drive benchmarks!

Two Terabyte F1's in raid0, 64k stripe.. I'm impressed by the throughput compared to my old 500AAKS, but I was expecting more looking at other peoples results.. does the above graph seem about right, or am I missing some optimizations?

Not me, after listenening to these raptors crunch thier way through a vista boot up, I am now DEFINITELY going to go SSD.

A cheap 8mb cache 7200rpm Hitachi Deskstar 320gb drive I got from the purp shirt brigade awhile back. Performs pretty well for how much it cost me at the time (40 quid i believe)

The 640gb drives are looking tempting though.

just thought i,d add a single 15k scsi drive to the pile
its crippled by being on a 32bit slot (64 bit card adaptec, 21960)
when it seeks you know about it (like someone banging a bag of nails)

Seeing as I'm bored, no screenshots as there's no HD Tach for Linux...

[root@localhost ~]# ./seeker /dev/cciss/c0d1
Seeker v2.0, 2007-01-15, http://www.linuxinsight.com/how_fast_is_your_disk.html
Benchmarking /dev/cciss/c0d1 [279964MB], wait 30 seconds..............................

Results: 158 seeks/second, 6.32 ms random access time

[root@localhost ~]# hdparm -t /dev/cciss/c0d1

/dev/cciss/c0d1:
Timing buffered disk reads: 620 MB in 3.00 seconds = 206.38 MB/sec

BTW, here from my other post.

" Incase you did not know the NEW Firmware on V-Raptor 300GB's over the Engineering Samples Firmware reviewed by the websites takes the drive to 110/MB/sec Avg Sus Read up from 103/MB/Sec Avg Sus Read. "

What is the new firmware as im not sure if mine is running it as i only got my veloci 10 days ago.

I think you will find it hard for any HDD Manu's to give you a FW, Maxtor did it when the SATA300 HDD's came out but you had mail them details and I bricked one as it failed update (legit RMA).

I just find it that you all are getting bang on the 103MB/Sec the ES samples got and now the same site tested new FW and gets 109-110MB/Sec.

WILL edit when I get correct speed, damn I did not link to the site :(, anyhow its either 109 or 110 now, with 0.1ms slower on seek.

EDIT : PHEW : http://techreport.com/articles.x/14964 ;)

My new 640GB WDC Blue.

Look at the seek time though , could that be due to the quiet control thing been turned on?

Most likely yep, the latest stock seems to have it on by default (a few people have posted about it)

Use this to turn it off, there`s an iso or floppy image.

Disabled it, still getting 16.4ms :(

**edit**, instead of disabling it I just moved it all way up to 254 so its litrally disabled, is 13.8ms ok for these drives?
