Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

my best AV purchase ever - bought as a stop-gap almost 2 years ago

still can't find anything to replace it with that sounds as good sub £1.5k :( cost me £470 2 years ago and I reckon I'd still get 400 back for it - how much of a bargain is that :)

only amp I've found (and I've bought or home-demoed near to 4 modern mid-higher range av amps) near it so far is an Arcam AVR500 - but had "issues" - so had to go back :(

build quality is so good also - 35kg it weighs - when you try and lift it it feels like its glued down

it was ahead of its time too - has a USB input that allows 8 channels of Lossless PCM :) - only disadvantage is that its limited to 16bit/48khz - but thats CD quality

Nice one Buckster:D.
I used to own one of those beasts a couple of years ago, what an amp,one of only a handfull that can drive 4ohm speakers like my KEF TDM's properly, without farting and ******** itself!!:D:D
It was also very good with music, seemed to work well with the Arcam Alpha 8se cd player that I had in my system then(and still own;))
Took me a lot of searching to replace it,eventually settling on a Marantz SR6006 with 5 MA500 monoblocks to get near the power and frontal "slam" of the Pioneer.
A truly wonderfull piece of kit that you have there, will surely recieve its rightfull place in the AV hall of fame!!

mud4jags - thankas - thats only one thing I haven't tried - mid-range av amp + a decent 5 + 2 channel power amp (or 7 monoblocks) :)

I've tried replacing it - been through a Yamaha 3800, Pioneer SC-LX71, Arcam AVR500, Yamaha 3067 so far ....

I'd a feeling the 3067 + decent power amp would have been good - but it starts getting an expensive gamble considering you don't know until you've also spent the money on the power amp...then too late then

I hate gloss but I love it. Nice setup.

How's that RX sub?

I loved the look of it but I heard it's very metallic and rather quite for a sub (kind of expected given it's compact size and sealed nature) though is apparently reasonably musical and the 12v trigger is very useful.

Thanks, thats an awesome setup too :) You have soo many PC monitors! Looks like you have the same TV stand!

I havent had a chance to test it out much yet as I have no-where to put my rear speakers until I get a bulder to fix them to the wall.

I didn't go for the RX rears in the end as I decided to go for the BR-FX's which still sound awesome, I did a mini review of the speakers here. You'll enjoy bedding them in I'm sure!

I've almost had them two years now and I'm still as chuffed with them now as I was when I first got them. I only have two monitors the one on the wall is just a picture :)

Spent yesterday evening replacing all of the electrolytic capacitors in my old luxman amp. Not done the main power filtration caps yet as i need to find suitably sized replacements. Used mainly nichicon KZ and fine gold + a pair of elna silmic II's in the RIAA. The change has been remarkable, not so much to the sound but a big reduction in background noise.

Original caps, not too bad considering they are nearly 30 years old. (2 were well dead, the rest were still good)
