Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

Very good actually, was quite surprised once it was all set up.

I was struggling to find a suitable AV unit that would fit in the furniture and the soundbar turned up one day (the wife got me it as a present)

I used to have a CDX2/NAT02/82/200/NAPSC/HICAP/N-Sat's, it all got sold and a Uniti was purchased to replace it. I miss having it but the money helped with a house deposit so it would have been daft to keep it all.

Dave
Nice. Shame you had to sell, but if you need the money.... I'm sure you'll get back there in time :)

divuk83, how are you finding the uniti in comparison with you separates? I did demo one driving some proac 140's, thought it was a beautiful unit (didn't like the speakers much though.)

arad85, beautiful set up.

Not sure why but I prefer 2 channel to multi....

Rossi why so many headphones?

For different uses
HD650 - Ultimate music pair
HD25-1 ii - closed back, isolation, studio work
HD595 - Not used often, will use around the flat
HD25-SP2/HD25-1 ii - Portable
Also have the HD238 Precision at work and some in-ear phones for running. Next up is a new wireless set as my Sony RF unit has fudged up.

I just want to add. After listening to The Wall and Obscured by Clouds this evening, i think Cerwin Vega! are underestimated. I bloody love these VE8's. Most people think the bottom end is far too heavy, maybe on the 12" and 15" speakers but i think they're perfect on these.

First picture from me in this thread. Decided to upgrade my projector from the Optoma HD20 to a JVC X3. The JVC is a bit of a beast. Will hopefully get more pictures of my set up once I've moved out of my parents and into my new flat once it's eventually built. Should hopefully be moving in early March (only 5 months late!)

My polystyrene capacitors finally turned up yesterday after nearly a month of waiting. (suflex and LCR) Fitted them in the evening and I'm pleased to report that its still working perfectly. The amp sounds excellent now, although i will admit that the best changes have been the electrolytic capacitors and the RIAA opamp. Everything else has been in the land of severe diminishing returns. There are still 8 original capacitors on the tone control board, but since the control is defeated 95% of the time, I'm not too worried about replacing them yet. (I had to put the old rubycons back in place of the nichicon muse KZ's due to their size, so there are 2 mylar, 4 electrolytic and 2 ceramic remaining)

My new power amp project has taken priority now so i'll be working on this for a few months. It will be built from scratch not using any kits so it'll take a while not to mention cost a small fortune. Some pics... (only half the amp is shown, there will be another module mounted the opposite side) Anyone able to guess what it is? (They've been around since the 80's and are still being sold today)

How does the x3 compare to the hd20? I have a hd200x and the picture is excellent only thing is the black levels arnt brilliant.

Hmmmmm.......looks like something from the Quad stable if I'm not mistaken??:)

I thought that layout looked familiar...lol.
Used to have a pair of 909's waaaayyyy back in 85..ish (god was it that long ago??).
An astounding power amp,I remember it having a huge dynamic range and the way it handled vocals especially, gave me goosebumps!! Sounded just brilliant with my Linn LP12/Ittok/Troika front end...... aahhhh happy days.
Good luck with the project,it will be well worth the effort.
Are you making a pre amp as well?

Not sure yet, haven't got any 99 schematics or pcb designs, might have to either build a different pre-amp, buy one or use one of the integrated amps i already have as a pre-amp. I've got the schematics for the 22 and 33 preamps, but i'll mull it over as i've got a lot of time on my hands before this is built. I'm still working on the PCB design. (Finding my mistakes before i actually make the real board)

If it was the 80's you must have had a 606 as the 707 and 909 came after 1997. It is a clone of a 909 that i am working on and fingers crossed it should be better than the original as i am building it with a bigger power supply and greater cooling. The current model is now called an Elite QSP, but they are all fundamentally a 606 with some changes to a few component values over the years. (even i was quite surprised at how little had changed in 25 years) My clone is being built up around an issue 3 606 board using 909 component values. My dad has a 240 studio model with balanced inputs that we're working on so that we can balance the output from his pre-amp. Should get a rough idea of the sound quality i'll be getting from that as the design is near identical.

The blacks are the major improvement over the hd20/hd200. It's also got additional features including lens shift, automatic lens cover, better caliberation options as well. Picture is definitely an upgrade. However, you need to consider your room environment. The HD20 is a lot brighter so is fine to use in a bright room but the x3 definitely isn't. You really need the lights off and black out blinds/curtains for it to reach its potential.

Anyway, welcome! An interesting mix of speakers you've got there.
