Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

Got the lights going on the luxman after god knows how many years. Converted them from traditional bulbs on a zener regulated circuit to LED's. Pretty much finished all the work that can be done on it now.

I love seeing the older gear getting a new lease of life, well done, give yourself a pat on the back:).
Just got bitten by the "retro" bug myself, took the plunge and purchased an LP12 off ebay last week, very clean and tidy.Still need to source a tonearm and cartridge though(hopefully an Ekos and the old faithful Troika).
I'm really looking forward to setting this up,still got my record collection in the attic. Its going to be heaven listening to that wonderful Linn sound again.
My wife reckons I'm like a child with a new toy:D

Think he is suggesting you post pics of your kit which most people in the thread do rather then just list it ;)

Pics for the non-believers :D

Just bought these from Sevenoaks today.

Now our student flat can have some decent sound, instead of the old tinny £30 Logitech speakers :D

  • B&W 685
  • Marantz PM6004

Wonder why they warned you off marantz stuff as my SR4200 receiver is still going strong 9 years on and my marantz CD-56 is older than i am and still works fine even with CD-Rs. Sound quality on the amp isn't at all bad although my luxman is certainly better.

I get the impression that those B&W speakers are obviously lacking in LF since the guy has loudness on and the bass tone control turned up.

Probably likes a lot of bass.

We've got an ancient Marantz CD63 kicking about at home that still works, and have only recently replaced a Marantz SR5200, they make some very good stuff.

I thought I'd add my ageing system to the thread.

The setup in the room is a bit of a compormise but it still sounds pretty good to my ears (and with no need for a 'loudness' button :D)

Server (WHS) with mostly flac audio files (out of shot)
Squeezebox 3
DacMagic
Home-brew pre-amp - 'passive' plus buffer, relay switching and remote control
Rotel RB-991 200W pc power amp
Kef Reference 104/2
REL Storm 3 sub (out of shot)

The AV side is nothing to write home about - Panasonic 42" plasma, HTPC running MediaPortal, Sky+HD 1TB, Yamaha AV amp, Panasonic DVD-R and a Wii.

One minor problem is that the bottom glass shelf is bowing under the weight of the amps. On the plus side, the Sky F1 channel has appeared on the planner and is running trailers :)

My onix OA20 and Rega Planar 2.

Only just taken delivery of the onix and so far so good! I haven't had the lid off yet but will do in due course to inspect the caps etc.

I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for a pair of second hand speakers now, but haven't got a clue! This is my first foray into the vintage hifi market so suggestions will be most welcome.

When i read this and saw the picture I was like

I know its probably not deflecting too much but as it will most likely be tempered glass and when it breaks it will shatter into a thousand peices instantly, causing all your gear on that shelf to fall to the floor vertically which will give a nasty knock!

Put a support or length of timber somwhere out of view... go on you know you need to :p
