Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

Soon to be moving house, so my bedroom setup can grow. Currently using a Samsung MS651, but I would like the low end of a sub again, so have bought the rest of the kit. Was only meant to buy the W700 sub, but then went mad and bought the 9000 rear speakers too. Looking forward to setting it all up. First time I'm going to have rears too. :)

That TV is surely far too high, unless your viewing position is about 20 feet away.

It was lower, but my new sofa was a lot higher so had to move it up, it’s pretty much perfect now

We’re sat 18 feet away so not too far but if it was any lower then the centre is below eye level which bugs me

Moved into a new build, had this unit built. Kit isn't anything too impressive but sounds great.
Fronts and rears: q acoustics 2020
Center: q acoustics 2000ci
Sub: Jamo sub 300 10"
Amp: Pioneer 531
Tv: LG 55**something goes here**

1. Buy a second sub
2. Buy a second sub
3. See point's 1 & 2

I'm sure if you made a thread about it we could have a whipround to help out :D

My modest setup of 2nd hand vintage bits:

Speakers - Mission 780s
Amp - Marantz PM-66SE
Tuner - Denon TU-260L
Bluetooth adapter for Aux in

Whilst I'm really happy with what I have, pretty envious of some of the setups in here! Will upgrade once I'm no longer renting and have a house instead of a small flat.

Or at least move the unit and sub over so it looks central (and the carpet too!).

Mine is the same, and if I centralise both it looks stupid. On camera they're both dark/black so it looks off centre but in reality I bet your eyes would see a striking difference between his unit and sub making it less jarring.

My unit is Rosewood and sub black, so it looks better with the unit centralised and the sub off to the left

Excuse my potato pics, but finally I feel I can show off my setup. Really happy with how everything is sounding now. CDs played via CXC when the PC is off - which is mostly when I am working on laptop during the day, and PC plays music when media is digital or other media means.

Full Kit:
CA Aero 2 Speakers on Adam Hall 2 Pads (thanks for recommendation @lucid)
CA Azur 351A Amp
CA DAC Magic 100
Cambridge CXC
Sennheiser HD650 Headphones

I'm going to turn your system on it's head by recommending you ditch your passive speakers, thus the amp and DAC for some near field monitors. They're designed for studio/desk usage. Maybe some Adam F5s.

Honestly it has taken 2years to get the sound i like. I have tried different amps and speakers, including floorstanders when my office was setup different. I love how it sounds now. When I just listen i am not set at my desk but a good metre and a bit back. I also do not whack the volumes up, just to a loud but acceptable level for the room size when th e mood takes me.

It is not going to be to everyone's tastes but suits mine. Also it means when we move house hopefully next year i will move it all to a separate room just for audio.

Cracking speaker the 805 D3, light and day compared to the older versions which I never liked. Home sampled these, really good but not good enough to justify replacing my current speakers.

Needs the right amp to pair with it, then they really come alive.

As it was office system, I was thinking about going with simpler amp. But back to back comparisons and I wasn’t happy with anything other than McIntosh to run these.

They also highlight any weak link in the system, even cabling or poor DAC/pre-amp.

The big ones even have me looking to get power cleaner... never imagined I would get into something like that.

Power cleaner?

You will be buying Russ Andrews stuff next.

Seriously, before you do, so yourself a favour by doing a blind test.

I will

Did blind test with the cables and chose the more expensive pair over multiple scenarios.

Most noticeable difference in the low end.

I come from thinking this stuff like power cleaners and expensive cables are snake oil, so very sceptical of it all and need blind test.

I just checked and the Russ Andrews stuff is cheap comparatively.

I have Nordost Tyr 2

That is rather suspicious - the conclusion I'd take is that there was something up with your testing rather than you somehow discovering a difference that has failed to appear in various controlled double blind tests.

I mean a few years ago, if you were really confident, you might have been able to add an extra $1 million to your crypto fortune by demonstrating this:

https://gizmodo.com/311034/updated-...-challenge-do-7250-cables-sound-better-or-not

I wasn't disputing that you've attempted to run a blind test - I'm just pointing out that if you've got a result from an experiment that is counter to the results found when these things have been run multiple times previously in various controlled tests then I'd not jump to the conclusion that you've suddenly discovered something new but rather I'd be skeptical of the test you tried to run.

If you have indeed discovered a difference that can be replicated in further tests then that cable manufacturer would likely be chuffed to bits and various audio engineers, academics etc.. who have poo posed the claims of the hi fi industry will have to change their position on these expensive cables.
