Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

this is normal so don't be worried. It happens a lot on bright/white scenes. Just the way plasmas are.
Re seating it again or loosening the screws on the stand at the back of the tv helps to reduce it

K thanks, its not too bad now.

One thing i have noticed though, on both HD and SD sources, some scenes that are very white or really dark (rarely for dark scenes) it looks sort of "snowy" if thats the word. Looks like there is really really faint static in the background or something.

Hard to explain, but it is noticeable. Mostly noticeable when there is sky in the scene. The foreground looks fine, but when you look at the sky it looks grainy and flaky. Is this a problem?

i've not noticed this.
How long have you had your panny?
Has it been over a 1000hrs?

Only had it since Saturday. Don't think I'm even past 20hrs on it yet. Should it go away with time?

lol its still breaking in mate. 20hrs is nothing!
200hrs is the MINIMUM it needs to settle down. After 1000hrs is when it starts to really kick in :)

Give it time mate, its just maturing.

phew! Thanks man, just totally paranoid atm cause I want the tv to be the best it can and any fault I find I freak out! :D

my 50pz is the same but i cant see it unless im right up against the screen. i can only assume its how panasonic deal with image retention (and it seems to work). if you cant see it from where you're sitting then id say its not a problem :)

Haha i was like that when i got my 50" Panny. It didn't looks all that special out the box but with time its blown me away. I was so impressed that i bought a 42" panny not long after. SD is normally the worst in the initial period but after a while its looks crisp and very good.

200hrs is the benchmark that all producers state for the plasma maturing. Its also why they say don't turn the settings up in that time.

Its normally around 1000hrs when a plasma has fully matured and that's when you can really see it shine.

I use to leave it on overnight to speed up the 200hrs :D

Yup PWM noise from the circuitry.

See it on my kuro but am more interested in the better picture from a plasma, so in my eyes it's worth it.

Also re buzzing, maybe move seating position.

Hopefully the "snowy" flaky things will go away with time. Checked and i only have 34hrs on the set lol.

Also, its probably not the best thing to check black level on, but sometimes the black bars on blu-rays and DVD's look a bit grey even with the lights out in the room. If the scene is very dark, the bars look light black, if the scene is bright, the bars look really black.

Is this normal, or should i lower the brightness?

Its normal mate. I understand why you are panicky because i was exactly like you when i got my panny.

What you are experiencing is normal. Its only done 34hrs so its pretty much unused.

The colours will settle down with time with more usage.

What brightness setting you using? The HDtest settings ye?

Yea just 1 click left from normal (50% so now its at 49%). Knocking it down another does make the black bars more black, but the overall picture is darker and duller.

Haven't tried any other settings than HDTVTest's yet, but most people seem to think they are good.

I would wait and give it atleast 200hrs. Blacks normally take the longest to bed in. Gradually the pixels will settle and the blacks will look black. Panny's are only 2nd to Kuro's when it comes to PQ and blacks :)

It definitely looks better than my Samsung M86, especially with SD stuff. Just wish the 200hrs would hurry up! :p

James Miller.

Could you do me a favour and let me know the depth of your Ikea unit? My new amp is 46cm deep and most ikea units look like they might struggle.

Cheers
