Can all of these lovely screens and layouts be done on an Android phone like the Orange San Francisco? I'm thinking of picking one up to root, unlock and then play around with. Or can it only be done on handsets like the HTC Desire/Desire HD and Samsung Galaxy S/Nexus S?

Nope. They all have Android in common and more importantly 2.1+, though you probably could do it on a 1.6 system but most people develop for 2.1 and above I think.

...Which can be easily upgraded to 2.2 if you check the other thread.

Cool thanks. Might order one later at work because even the Android customisation bit itself makes the £99 worthy of its price!

Been piddling around with ADW Launcher but don't really want to root yet...can't believe there's still no screen shot app for unrooted phones. I'm sure there's a very good reason but it's annoying.

Maybe he likes his warranty? lol

I think there IS a screenshot program that works on SOME non-rooted phones, I'm sure it's mentioned on either this one or the 'essential android apps' thread...

I was rooted & mucked up a custom flash. This was never brought into question regarding my warranty. Might be different for others but I really dont think they care about rooting.
