** POTENTIALLY THE BEST GAMING MONITORS YET!! ** Acer 34" Ultra-wides

My 2 cents on the sharpening is that its a gimmicky post process that make it seem like the game needs more antialiasing applied, check out the bricks at the back to see what I am talking about. I prefer the original image.

I know it might look a bit fake there, however in game there is a clear loss of detail without it on. With the filter it looks like there's no filter, almost how it's supposed to be if that makes any sense.

Remember the image is zoomed in. At a normal distance, postsharpen doesnt really "reveal" aliased edges much if done properly.

Texture look muuuch nicer with it.

Update on my antics with the A34 G-Sync.

Got home and demoted my 40" VA panel to the printer shelf. Plugged in the A34 and fired both displays up connected by DP to my 980 Ti. Initially I couldn't get the A34 to run at 100Hz even though it said it could but quickly realised the G-Sync options weren't in the control panel. Rebooted and everything is working now. 100 Hz on the A34 at 3440p and 60 Hz on the UHD monitor.

I know it seems over kill having these monitors but I was waiting for the A34 for months so bought the AMH A399U 40" VA monitor for something to play with in the mean time.

So as a direct comparison the IPS panel does have slightly brighter blacks, to be expected, but they are much better then I had feared! So the pic below is a worst case scenario using the most sensitive mode on the camera to exaggerate the back light glow on each display. You can see that even the super black VA panel has an amount of BLB.

The second pic is much closer to what you are actually seeing with your puny human eyes. The difference isn't so great but the VA panel is still better at blacks. If you look closely at the lower monitor you can see the slight haze in the corners but again that was obviously shot in a pitch black room.

Yeah seems to me that nearly all the ones I have seen no matter g/freesync, the bottom left is where the worst of the BLB comes from.
I'm loving my new screen and i'm glad I didn't listen to any of those bad reviews... it's simply a stunning monitor both in looks and quality. :)

Have only been playing Arma 3 but yeah, never going back! So much more immersive when gaming, can't wait to try some sim racing on it :)

I've only played a couple of games but was enjoying Witcher 3 (yeah predictable) with basically everything on (including HW) bar AA and was getting smooth game play in the mid 40s.

I then tabbed out and back in and basically broke the game as it was running at single digit fps. I had to pretty much shutdown and power back up and run another game to get it working again. Not sure what happened but I'm wary of coming out of full screen in G-Sync.

I'll have a play with the windowed mode.

Windowed mode won't give you as good a framerate.

I wouldn't worry yet, just play around with it.

I did and it wasn't too far off and more importantly stable when tab between the desktop and back again. I'll have another go at full screen tomorrow.....

Weird just tried full screen again and it's broke. I can switch back to borderless window and it's fine without restarting the game. Oh well gives me something to do tomorrow.

<EDIT> OK couldn't leave it like that so set the nVidia CTRL to full screen mode (G-Sync) and tried again and of course it worked in full screen! So I may have mixed up the modes but I was sure I hadn't tried borderless mode when it went to single figure fps so I guess something to be aware of.

Ok my concerns about getting to 100Hz on older cards was unfounded.

Quick mini review, short version... Overall I'm very pleased.

Slightly longer version

Pros
I've not noticed any bleed at all, outstanding.
The IPS glow is minimal very happy.
I've not found any dead pixels. Woohoo
Using the TFTCentral ICC profile and everything is very easy on the eye. Nice image.
Mine does reach 100Hz but... it is more stable at 95

Cons:
Mine does reach 100Hz but I have had a few screen freezes so dropped it to 95 and it has been fine since.
Manual is sh1te it doesn't explain half of what is in the OSD. What is OD and do I need it off normal or extreme?
Curved screens are bit over hyped imho
Mine is also porked if you let it go to sleep, see image below. Turning it off and on again fixes the problem. Does make me worry about QA and how long it will last. If this is the only issue I end up with I'll live with it.

Played Project Cars2 and was hit 95Hz and 95fps with Gsync enabled.
GTA V also worked very well with gsync and was in the 60-75 range
Arma 3 I can't get to work with gsync for some reason. I shall investigate further.

But surely you don't have the ability to run GTA at those frames at 1440p? Does anyone? :)

If I switch off Ultra grass (which is ridiculously intensive) and bump down the extreme distance scaling I get around 85-100fps. It's well worth it.

@Carl_Bennetts, Vsync is on in the control panel (near the bottom past Vsync.) Basically if your panel gets to 100fps I believe Vsync will kick in. There might be some slight input lag here, so some people limit it to something like 96 or 98 FPS so Gsync is always on. If you switch Vsync off in game and the control panel, Gsync will only be in effect at 30fps-100, but your framerate will exceed 100fps, and so you might begin to notice tearing again. If you're playing something like Counterstrike, you might want to leave it off.

@Bounty, I haven't seen anyone's NOT do that yet. Mine does it, and a good deal of others at another forum do too. Also regarding the curve, the monitor should just look like normal in front of you. If the monitor was flat, then you might find the edges look like they're bending away from you. This just alleviates that.

EDIT:

Have just seen this:

Guys with the backlight sleep problem:
Turn your ambient lights(LEDS) off and confirm the problem is still there please.

So far with the lights off, I can't reproduce the problem.

Initial observations:

  • Backlight bleed is minimal, little bit on left corners. 110% acceptable.
  • There is some buzzing at 100Hz, becomes louder with a fully white screen. My environment is particularly quiet and it's past midnight however. To be honest I'm betting that they all suffer from buzzing to a degree and the varied reports are as a result of differences in hearing, ambient noise, and minor variations between each unit.
  • 100Hz is freakishly smooth on the desktop but you adjust quickly. Gaming...need to try.
  • Build quality is solid, the thing doesn't look cheap at all from the front.
  • OSD is awful.
  • Colour temperature uniformity isn't perfect. Not a huge deal for me.
  • Speakers are crap.
Overall, first impressions are positive.

I caved in. I'm a bad man. :(

Being delivered to holiday destination I'm away next week and I think they're going to sell out before I get back. Going to have to lug it half way across the country in the back of the car home. :o
