** POTENTIALLY THE BEST GAMING MONITORS YET!! ** Acer 34" Ultra-wides

Anyone else not able to see their start up/bios splash screen?
Had this same problem when connected to my Panasonic LED TV using HDMI but shows fine with DVI so don't think it's the monitor.
Need to get in my bios but cant see it lol, I'm thinking the monitor doesn't like the low res of the bios screen.

I had this, powering everything off then back on again (entire system) worked for me.

OK I have a little experiment for you all :)

I'm using Witcher 3 as it's popular and I can 100% confirm this happens for me.

With G-Sync On and V-Sync set to "Use the 3D Application Setting" and load Witcher 3 to the start menu.
Can you hear any coil whine?
If you can then go in to the video settings and set V-Sync to ON
Did the coil whine stop?

Everytime I set V-Sync to On the coil whine stops. With V-Sync set to off I can hear whine.

Fraps (V-Sync On) = 100 fps = Silent
Fraps (V-Sync Off) = 800+ fps = Whine

This is something I've noticed before on other displays that when there's effectively no limit (or no load on the GPU) on the refresh the GPU is running some ridiculous fps and you get whine. I don't think it's an inherently bad monitor design just a weird symptom of the panel being over driven.

Just to add there is also a slight hiss (or just a quieter whine) almost with a very bright screen but that's also something I've heard on other displays to varying degrees ever since I've been using PCs and as usual we're all a little bit different in how we pick on these things.

@ Baddass... having reviewed this and now the PG279Q, would you say there was much between the two in terms performance? Obviously the X34 has the extra immersion, but in terms of speed, 100Hz vs 144Hz, and the other features, does one stand out? Is the extra width of the X34 worth sacrificing that speed for, and would you even notice it for the most part? I keep reading once you get above 100Hz it's diminishing returns.

Just lock the framerate.

@Bounty, I haven't seen anyone's NOT do that yet. Mine does it, and a good deal of others at another forum do too. Also regarding the curve, the monitor should just look like normal in front of you. If the monitor was flat, then you might find the edges look like they're bending away from you. This just alleviates that.

EDIT:

Have just seen this:Have just seen this:

Guys with the backlight sleep problem:
Turn your ambient lights(LEDS) off and confirm the problem is still there please.

So far with the lights off, I can't reproduce the problem.
Had a LG 34UM95-P 34" for a weekend before sending it back. No issue with bending edges. All this curved stuff is a gimmick, be it TV's or monitors imho, especially with TV's.

Just come back from shopping after first turning the ambient lights off before I left. I moved the mouse to wake the screen and the left side was still dark.
However, I didn't have to turn off and on again to fix. I clicked AVG pop-up to close it and the left side of the screen came back on.

Curve is not a gimmick, it is for TVs, but not for Monitors.

i recently proved to 4 of my mates who bought 60"+ curved TVs that u cant notice them from distance :D

completely different with monitors tho :) its a massive selling point when sat close.. cant wait for them to come back in stock..

Recieved mine this morning, even the delivery guy from DPD was jealous.

I am amazed with this, going from a 24" 1080p 60hz screen to this is like upgrading from Dame Edna to Kate Upton. Wow

No dead pixels, no colour banding, tinyest glow in the bottom left corner which you cannot really see even before calibration.

wow just wow.... one happy customer... good things come to those who wait.

2 tiny cons....
1 - already mentioned terrible OSD menu, threw some choice words at it earlier
2 - there is a tiny scratch on the inside of one of the big metal feet which is noticable when you are sat in front of the screen. However I can live with it for this perfect monitor.

I spent some time trying to get the 100hz working on the monitor with no luck until I realised that I had my 55" 4k Screen plugged into the gfx card as a secondary monitor via HDMI which will prevent you from raising the hz to 100. Unplugged it and it worked fine. Dont really need it connected anyway.

In my opinion there are very few problems with this monitor in comparison to the previous Acer Predator (27"), looks like problems may lie with the panel then the manufacturer? LG seems to have done a good job. I dont know what Metros is talking about when he says 'all the problems with this monitor'.... he either works for Asus or is the worlds biggest fanboy.

These are all the problems

Then add

Coil whine
Not reaching 100hz

Not sure how this monitor got past QC control

Are you the same guy that annoyed everyone on the overclock forums?

Anyway so far the good ones vs the bad ones seems good, on here at least.

He is the Asus PR guy @ Ocn so yes.

PG279Q was superior in terms of QC etc ,to the XB according to him after just one person had posted an image of it.
