Power to Mick Lynch

I didn't realise Norway's was that huge!

They have a nice fund compared to their population, for the UK though it's about half our GDP. The UK obviously has a lot more mouths to feed considering we have a population about 13x as big so our similarly sized oil reserves wouldn't go nearly as far.

In addition to this, no UK government has had the foresight to even set one up at all for us. Top investing. Bearing in mind we are top 3 in the world for the asset management industry. As you can see from that table it doesn’t have to be commodity dividends that pay for it. Don’t play it down we dropped that ball 40 years ago. This country does not seem to think mid or long term.

It's amazing that we've become so used to wage stagnation that we expect a pay rise to crash the economy. This is an economy currently suffering the highest levels of inflation in decades - have we had the biggest wage increases in decades? I think not, but this amazing Tory government have the public convinced that something they haven't had in years will be the cause of something we're already experiencing.

Genius.

I very much look forward to someone telling you you are wrong, why, and why measures should not be taken. I like a bit of sport :D

It’s like shooting pub experts in a barrel.

Well to be fair the cards are lined up nicely for a repeat...inflation, unhappy workers, currency depreciating, Tory government :D
Actually much of the 1970's was a labour government,74 to 79 before the winter of discontent brought Maggie to power.
We will see tomorrow the effects of RMT's proposed summer of discontent, or like Arthur Scargill, have they jumped the gun?

I’m not taking sides sir, but it’s important to remember both ideologies played a part in that. I.E mathematically “half of the 70s each”. And please don’t forget the repossessions and troubles of 91. However, great time for music!

Final note, congrats on the 10% pay rise :D

Or is it provoked just like Thatchers government did to the miners, Scargill was right.

74-79 is 5 years. 5 years is half a decade.. I'm not sure how 5 years amounts to "much of the 1970's being a labour government" It would in fact seem it was split pretty much 50/50 exactly.

I'm embarrassed if that comes to pass. But yes most of my vinyl collection stems from 1971 or thereabouts.

Ted Heath upset the miners first in 1974 so when the miners strike in 1984 kicked off, it was to the death for Scargill. He unwisely took the miners out without a ballot in the middle of the year with the promise that no pit would close. Impossible.

We never will, but let it be said politics apart we would likely enjoy a drink based evening of nostalgia together. You’re paying though boomer :D

With an approval rating of 21% it's not going too well.
So Joe public is going to all pile on the labour bandwagon? The party of the metropolitan elite or the striking workers. No middle ground any more…

The strikes have achieved what they wanted, they’ll get pay rises. The public won’t be able to do anything about the rubbish service or rising fares and will just be treated with contempt. As usual.

People should take notes and be more willing to unionise and go on strike tbh. Nothing else seems to work half as well or effectively.

'Much of' does not mean more than half, it indicates a significant proportion.
