Prince Andrew not served papers as they were handed to his police security.

It wasn't a criminal trial. She would have likely won either way, out of court settlement or being awarded compensation by the court.

But thats the argument isnt it, for every point made to why would he settle, theres an equal counterpoint of if she was so likely to have won , why would she settle and not put a high ranking royal through a court trial to a defeat. Like I say, the bottom line is, now we will never know the actual truth. She could have gone on to win a trial, as it was so likely a win, instead by taking an out of court settlement all she has done is open herself to allegations of just wanting a payday (whether thats the truth or not). I cant really see how thats a better path for her than winning the court battle if the evidence was so strong.

My first thoughts were that I couldn't decide whether this suggests he's guilty or not, so came here to see what you were all saying.

Definitely agree though that her accepting the money, doesn't sit comfortably with me.

I don't think it reflects well on either perhaps.

Still nothing really gets resolved though and the endless questions will remain.

Probably doesn't matter now they have made an out of court settlement. I wonder how much? I bet it was a lot. It's alleged he has been selling assets. Not sure if that's normal

I thought it was pretty obvious to most early on that this was just her wanting a pay day. She already had a pay day out of Epstein, although IIRC on the face of it the pay out was peanuts and she was under pressure to accept it.

In reality i don't think she cares one bit whether Andrew would have been found guilty or not. I suspect the out of court settlement will have been right on the figure of what could have been awarded by the court (he's got much more to lose on this, so would be silly to low ball a settlement) so she see's it as a quick and easy way of not having to faff with court and get a load of money out of it.

I think that was on the basis of some questions surfacing on whether the Queen (and in some part the taxpayer) would be footing his legal bill or even the settlement.

I've no sympathy if he has had to sell every asset he owns to fund the legal bill/settlement.

So much for this that was said previously..

"will only accept a settlement if it held Andrew 'to account'. What's important for Virginia is to vindicate herself and the other victims. Not to let someone escape responsibility, just because of their wealth and power. To hold Prince Andrew to account.' "

Sounds like she has done exactly the opposite and allowed an escape of responsibility because of their wealth and power.

So he has paid his way out of it so he must be guilty?

We'll never really know now..could be that its better for the Royal Family and the Queen in her jubilee year to have a line drawn under this now rather than a dragged out public court case and thats a motive for settling whether he is guilty or not. Could be that by settling the payment is less than he might have had to pay had he lost the case (whether he is guilty or not), I dont necessarily think that every person who settles out of court instantly and black-and-whitely indicates that they must 100% be guilty. But herein lies the problem, now any evidence will never see the light of day, we'll never hear any sides of the case presented in court and so ultimately, the bottom line is, now we will never know.

The money is going to her charities to be fair.

if she had 500k from Epstein , that seems a president;
equally, maybe in settling they are considering lighter conviction in a ghislaine retrial (obviously in news)

So he has paid his way out of it so he must be guilty?

if i murder someone and then offer 20 million to the family as compensation can i avoid jail then?

Doesn't even need to be 20 mill. Marcos Alonso killed someone whilst drink driving and basically paid his way out of a jail term. His professional career was not affected whatsoever.

This ^^

She always said she wasn't interested in the money or pay-out's, she wanted justice and she wanted her day in court, but this news makes you think, was it money orientated all along....we will never know.
