Pro Cycling Discussion 2016

Amazing race to watch. Well deserved win, career defining. Especially after having to do the entire last cobbled section on his own after Stannard dive bombed the corner and pushed him out.

He looks like he thought he was dreaming when he got off the bike :D Looking forward to this BSP.

It is career defining for sure. Paris Roubaix is the best one day race in the calendar for me. There's just something about it; the history of the landscape they are riding through. There's a frisson of energy that translates to something very special.

I have to say that I do enjoy it when a domestique gets their five minutes in the sunshine.

To be fair, that guy has to fill hours and hours of live racing commentary, ID run out of things to say after half an hour!

I always like it when they say things like "Look at him there, just turning the pedals." Well, yeah, that's pretty much the key to this lark.

I also enjoy the speculation about which sprocket they're in. Trying to guess from a shot from the back of a wobbly motorbike whether someone is in 15t or 17t...

I always think the commentators have a pretty tough job, especially on a long spring stage of a grand tour, there's really not much to say until the last half hour but they somehow manage to fill 5 hours worth of chat!

What a fantastic race, got in from club run about 11.45 and put it on and watched it about 90-% end to end fast forwarding some sections, although I was trying to lace up a wheel for the first time for the first 90 or so minutes which passed the time whilst the breaks went away and came back.

Thoroughly deserving win for Hayman, shame Stannard couldn't pull it off, glad boassan hagen didn't win, usually cheer him on, but he done nothing today.

Vivianni hit by a moto today. Very lucky to get out with what looks like minor injuries. The teams and riders need to start making a stand, or there will be another fatality.

Absolute disgrace. Every race there has been a problem with these ****wit motorbike riders.
I think the opposite. I think that motorbike rider did pretty ****ing well to avoid almost everybody. Stacked a very big motorbike loaded with gear and managed to clip just one bike while other riders were still flying past into the crash - I think that's called a result

Well yes. He does do well to not smash into the pack. But he still shouldn't be that close to the riders that he needs to pull that off. He's not a camera motorbike. He doesn't need to be that close.

For me, does he have to go down the Arrenberg trench or would it not be safer to find a way round for the motorbikes?

Delighted for Haymans - didn't even know he was fit after his accident only a few weeks back. I was happy with the group as had a little money on EBH t 25-1 but as usual he manages not to win. Shame Tommeke couldn't make a historic 5th but a classic edition

Certainly one of the best Roubaixs I've seen. It was very unusual to see five very evenly matched riders in the finale and I think that's what made it so exciting. I really expected Vanmarcke to make his attack stick but he just couldn't quite get there. Sky suffered some fairly terrible luck as they looked very well placed till Rowe crashed.

Boonen winning would have been a great story but really happy for Hayman too. He rode a really smart race and must have put a massive effort in to get back on terms after Stannard forced him wide on that corner.

Huge credit to Tony Martin too for forcing the race winning split, he could win P-R one day in the right group. How much of a beast do you have to be to drop Sagan and Cancellara on the cobbles?

We didnt really see much of him as the cameras were focussed on the attacks at the front but I assume he did well not to panic and slowly pace himself back into the group.
I'm not sure that Stannard is entirely to blame for that corner incident though. IMO, stannard was paying attention and saw Vanmarcke attack but hayman either didnt see it or was being cautious into the corner and already losing the wheel in front. Stannard didnt have time to wait until after the corner to see if hayman can close the gap again and is forced to come round him through the corner.
