Pro Cycling Discussion 2017

No surprise really, must be gutting for him, Froome is probably rubbing his hands, he is going to have an even better team around him than last year.

Another great sprint by Gaviria yesterday, man to beat at the moment.

Good for Gaviria and QS, they seem to be getting some more results after the classics where they really missed out. Great ride by Bora for Sam Bennett and good to see him sprinting!

I find G's abandon slightly annoying as we're now 4 days since it happened so I personally thought he'd be over the worst of it, I guess it depends what the knee injury actually is.

Sky had a strong enough team to 'hang on' until now, he was in form and the TT showed just how much time he could make up. I guess it just shows Sky's ambition and focus to dominate the Tour again rather than digging deep for the Giro. I think they had the team for it and could've clawed themselves back into a GC spot, maybe not with Landa as he'd lost too much time after the crash (and hasn't really shown much form, in my eyes he's a huge disappointment, again & again!).

To be fair he did dislocate his shoulder! He had no hope of catching back up and only some injuries will show after a long day in the saddle as yesterday proved. TT is flat out the whole way so your body will mask any pain until it's finished.

Landa is filling the hole left by Richie Porte in the unlucky when leading role.

At 22 years old he is definitely one to watch! I always find putting power numbers in to perspective in regards to, w/kg, duration and ride time makes it even more unfathomable.

I think the commentary said it was a 21s effort peaking at 1,400+w, 20w/kg and 5 hours into the race, two weeks into the tour having already won three other stages. Phenomenal. Oh and time to sit up before crossing the line.

Chapeau.

Fantastic ride by Dumoulin to drop Quintana, I know that wasn't the sort of climb Quintana excels at but great job putting time into everyone, he'll need it for the big climbing days.

That was a fantastic watch. I know that only idiots light flares but it did make for quite the spectacle at that point on the climb :o :D

That was certainly up there with one of the best rides you'll see for a long time. Dumoulin didn't panic, kept his rhythm, let them all try attacking and burn themselves out a bit and then when he caught them he pushed again. Superb riding and real fantastic viewing.

Dumoulin is now my favourite human. He is such a class act.
Beyond being the best TT'er on the planet he can climb with the best of them and put on a good show. He is the full package. He has shown he is a leader the peloton needs also with the sportsmanship displayed yesterday. After all the dodgy **** we see in cycling and negative things going on constantly it's like a breathe of fresh air.

Those cheekbones too ;)

I think you're right, I'm probably biased slightly as I'm a big Thomas fan and just really disappointed.

A messy sprint finish but Gaviria came from nowhere and blasted past everyone. Rocket man
He's the man to beat at the moment. Quite surprised Caleb Ewan only has the 1 win and hasn't been that close the other times, I really thought he was the only one with a bigger kick than Cav, but I think Gaviria is showing an even bigger one! He has a perfect team around him but the leadouts have been less than ideal most of the time, just nobody else's has been perfect either so he seems to be dominating.

Anyone with the Eurosport app, how do you stream yours? I'm using it from my S5 streamed to Chomecast (using 'Google Home') and I keep getting annoying drop outs. I've not eliminated other devices interferring with the signal (have NowTV & Amazon fire all plugged in) but the drop is almost like the connection itself as the stream quality drops then I get buffer like pauses before it cuts out. If I play on my S5 without streaming it's perfect & retains top quality. Connection is 35mbps fibre so I know it's not that. Kinda annoying my Samsung smart TV doesn't have a Eurosport app (nor any of the other streaming boxes I have) so I have to cast it. So I'm kinda looking for an alternative to casting!?

I'm turning into a Dumoulin fan too, especially when I learnt he was Dutch and not French...! He also has a suffering face only a mother could love! Makes him very relate-able! ;)

Absolutely, can tell since end of 2015 he was a class act, and comes across as really down to earth not up his own behind, and he's trimmed down this year hugely. Just worry about the final week which is where he fell apart last year, but he looks like he has all the qualities to keep it going. Hopefully Stelvio day will enable him to whittle down the threats to just Quintana, who if he is within a minute on the last day he should nail easily on the TT.

Ewan was unfortunate in the early stages receiving contact & un-clipping during contention and then finding himself boxed in on another stage.
