Pro Cycling Discussion 2017

I actually do like Nibali. He is an out and out racer. The way he flew down that mountain yesterday was spellbinding. I do want TD to win this race but he made a mistake yesterday.

Don't get me wrong, he is a great racer and can descend like a demon, I just dont like the bloke as I think he is of dubious morals when it comes to wanting to win, like leaving a group he was with for dust whilst grabbing onto the team car to help get back to the peleton for instance. Hes also generally a miserable sod and after the interview he made it quite clear where he stands on the issue of gentlemanly conduct in cycle racing.

After the dust settled yesterday, with Kruijswijk in the break and Zakarin making the initial jump everyone one had to race on as they wouldn't want to lose time to each other, it was just unfortunately for TD

Please to see Pierre Rolland bag the stage today - often seen busting a gut on doomed breakaway for no reward

Same here. As irritating as I usually find Juan Flecha I could understand his excitement & emotion yesterday :) Also incredibly humbling to hear Rolland speak about how he just wants to be a part of the sports history and what it truly meant to him.

Our club has just had confirmation of the stage finish at this years Tour of Britain - with the stage finishing at Cheltenham.

Looks like a fiddly end to the stage as it follows the one way system right in the centre, with the line right by the Queen's Hotel. Looking forward to that!

That starts in Hemel Hempstead and loops round Aylesbury from what I can see. Waiting for the more detailed route but looks like they'll be coming through Hardwick via Aston Abbots/Cublington, down Pitchcott, up Waddesdon which is a nice little kicker :p and then along Upper Winchendon.

I'll be heading out to see them pass Hereford, nice & close but the only real climb they'll do is one with very little space to stand!

They'll use a fast & flat relief road to cut south of the city, it's hard to see when they pass through Malvern which climb they'll use. Hopefully British Camp! So may head there instead...

Heading south they don't actually go to Abergavenny, sticking to the back roads. Strange as they could've easily included The Tumble into the route.

He is playing a dangerous game but I sense Quintana is undercooked in an attempt to be fresher for the tour and Nibali doesn't quite have it. They must try and smash him tomorrow

TD was superb yesterday - totally bossed them both. Great ride and even more impressive was the way he toyed with them, had a few words with them and then had a right go at Nibali and Quintana after the stage for messing around and losing time to their rivals etc.

Superb stuff.

He is seriously a class act. There is no BS or robot like interviews from him, just says it as is and is always interesting.

Quintana and Nibs do not have what it takes to smash him. Look at yesterday, Quintana with team mates could not do it. Then when Tom started the attacks he was just toying with them. He's on top form and Quintana and Nibs are not currently. I do not think they can break him even with combined efforts, he just follows everything on his own terms and closes it down. Based on yesterday the guy is unbeatable right now. He does not even have a team around him and the others do, yet he is still shutting them down and then attacking them? Absolute beast.

Edit, stage 19 confirmed crime scene - https://twitter.com/oricascott/status/868032555534217217

Loved the Eurosport commentary yesterday when Rob Hatch said TD was trolling Quintana and Mr Nibbles with the (fake) attacks. Would like to see TD win the tour, especially given how quickly he finds himself without any team mates once the roads go upwards

If Movistar and the Arabian team full of Italians started riding during a nature break then this is a sad day in cycling. Absolutely no respect for the jersey and they are just going out of their way to smack down TD because I think they know they cannot beat the man genuinely. Sad.

Edit, it's going to come back together. Some DS reporting there was no toilet break and it occurred on a descent. Thank goodness for that.

Everyone/everything Dutch are claiming it was during a nature break.
Everyone else saying they simply got caught out on the descent.
Twitter wars this evening it will be.
