Pro Cycling Discussion Thread 2015

That climb in the video looks like The Rake round me, except it's about 50% longer... Looks horrendous.

Anyway.

Good result for Froome and Contador today. Good buffer over Nibali and Quintana.

He's gone from further than that before and won.

Which means absolutely nothing versus the situation he was in yesterday.

The Mur looks awesome, I want a go!!:cool:

Kwiat would be a good shout, but as others say I don't think he is on top form and he raced hard yesterday. Today is a Sagan/Kristoff/Valverde day depending how the race is when they get to the botton of the Mur. Sagan is my pick for today but he worked hard to get back on yesterday so it depends how he goes into today and approaches it....

Kristoff... Really?!

I'd say Dan Martin, Valverde, Purito.

Maybe even see Nibbles, Sagan, Gerrans or someone like Van Vaermaert up there.

I'd imagine they get plenty of flats on tubs as they are forced to race in the gutter due to the wind, combined with the rain the race tyres will get cut up super easy.

I avoid it and ride in the wheel path when heading out to racing on mine as it's generally clean due to the traffic.

I reckon Movistar will be gunning for a win today, after losing it in the wind yesterday. Valverde and Quintana are both more than capable of a strong finish on that profile.

Not long enough of a climb for either of those guys I don't think, much more of a puncheur type climb, which leaves it open for guys like Sagan, Kwiatowski, maybe Dan Martin. Basically a classic type day imo.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Tony Martin go from the flag on a day like today, Etixx had another truely dire day yesterday and I imagine will be wanting to gain something at least from today.

Full on hissy fit from Cav. Yes he was left to go from to far out but it's stage 2 - and having a pop at your team/lead out man is not a good idea!!!

Hardly a full on hissy fit and it seems the whole team from the management down are a bit hacked off with the first two days on the tour! Sadly it is looking like Cavendish is in decline he clearly still has the ability to win stages but he is not eh dominant force he once was at the business end of a stage

Great result for Froome yesterday really hoping he can bounce back from last years disappointment and prove that it wasn't a one off when he won, Thomas has also put himself in an interesting position I don't think he is ready to be a contender yet and this years course really doesn't suit his all round ability but I can see him leading a team at some stage.

Valverde has won the last 2 uci races up this climb!

would be surpised if they'll let Valverde put time into him tbh.

I dont see why not?
He's not going to suddenly become the main gc contender on Movistar by taking a few seconds on the Huy.
It would be stupid to deny him a chance at a stage win purely for team-political reasons.

After his failure to perform yesterday, I think he is either a: going to be looking for a new Team next season, or b: going to be offered such a reduced contract that he'll look for something else of his own violition.

Leferve hasn't been happy with Mark for a while. I doubt a few stage wins moving forwards will change that.

People have grown used to seeing Mark deliver stage wins almost at will. For years no-one else could get any where near him. Personally, I feel the decline in his sprinting ability isn't so much to do with age, but much more to do with the weight he has lost over the last 3 years or so to improve his climbing ability. That muscle mass is gone and he's going to struggle to get it back. His 'second kick' has pretty much disappeared as a consequence of that.

I don't feel we'll ever see Cav dominate the way he used to - he just isn't the same rider.

OK. Because I haven't followed his career since 2008. I clearly have no idea what he's capable of and I obviously know **** all about Pro Cycling.

I stand by my initial post. Disagree if you like.

Nobody can disagree with your post. It's a fact. He HAS gone from further than that before and won.
I'd agree with xdcx though, it's a completely pointless fact. The conditions were different, the race was different, the leadout was different. So just because he has sprinted from further before doesnt mean he didnt go too early this time.
The fact that he died before the line somewhat proves that he did indeed go too early.

Can someone explain why Cavendish not sprinting to the line results in Tony Martin not getting the yellow jersey? I thought the yellow jersey was a rider thing, not a team thing, so wouldn't Cancellara have got it anyway? Or are we saying that it should have been Martin being led to the front to sprint instead of Cavendish?
