Project CARS 2

Have

So, I'm actually finding it more enjoyable in VR than I am in 3440*1440.

What's the recommendation for a wheel/pedals anyone?
I went for the Thrustmaster TX, massive improvement in the FFB department over my G27 and wanted Xbox compatibility. Still using the 27's pedals though.

Thanks for suggestions regarding wheels, I'll have a shop around.

A couple of things I've noticed in my couple of hours playing.

  • I find the handling of the cars much better/easier when in VR.
  • There isn't much motion sickness feel, it's quite comfortable to play for an hour or two.
  • The visuals are pretty blocky and generally poor quality in VR.
  • The menus are far too close to the face and I'm having to strain to read things with some writing too blurred.

I can tell this will take endless hours to perfect, and that's a good thing. :)

Turn world movement to 0 and g force effect off for even more comfort.
If the visuals are blocky use supersampling and aa I use 1.6ss and medium aa.
Use the reset vr headset view button on the menu screen to re center the menus.

How much motion sickness there is (or not) is very much up to the individual ... I'm playing with any motion related settings on default (whatever they are) and not even a hint of quasyness, but I'm pretty used to VR by now.

I just wish I could stop myself from leaning into corners ... have always been ducking and leaning when playing video games :D

so my casters came, it helps massively, also spent Sunday building an inverted mount for my logitech pedals which feels much nicer and more realistic. I also set about modding the feel of the break pedal which i found not progressive at all. i took out the rubber block and cut half way down each of the corners removing the to leave a sorta 90 degree turned square on top of the base square shape roughly half the size. Now i get some resistance about half way down that slowly translates into tougher resistance at the bottom, a much better feel.

the mount is a bit rough around the edges at the moment but ill tidy up what needs it next weekend and give it a spray paint, job done! My technique is improving daily and that progression really helps to engage, my g920 is great and ill stick with it for a while but if i start tor rack up enough hours eventually i think i will replace the wheel, the deadzone is a bit off putting, not a massive issue but long term not something i would want to stick with if im taking it seriously.

Seriously need to get a proper handbrake for rallycross. Got my eye on the fanatec one but its not in stock for a few weeks.

I'm considering putting some elastic bands around my TH8A as a bit of a homemade mod lol. At the moment it's my Rift stand when not in use because the nose piece fits perfectly around the front of the shifter and the headband rests on the top of the shifter knob nicely, job done. If I'm using the shifter you can be damn sure I've got the VR headset on lol

How is VR in this? Better than Dirt?

Absolutely awesome VR experience possibly the slickest imlpementation to date (but you'd expect that considering it's the latest), the UI is very slick no faffing about removing the headset, looks and runs slightly better than the first game. I could never get Dirt Rally to work so can't compare them (didn't try all that hard cos I can't drive rally cars/loose surface stuff)...the only problem is you need a gamepad or similar buttons on your wheel to navigate when you use -vrnomirror because the mouse/cursor disappears...

...if you have a rig have you got bass shakers and simcom4? You can get the speakers and amps for about £25 each, a cheap 5.1 sound card for about £20, the software is the most expensive bit. Honestly the vibration from kerbs engine rumble etc...so immersive in VR.

My rig vibrates so much the mouse falls off onto the floor, I've had to start putting it on the floor before I start...

I managed to get my T500 & GT Omega Rig second hand, but I've spent a few quid for sure. It's a very addictive hobby, but so much cheaper than doing it for real.

No rig not got the space, just desk and office chair. Currently have a t300 with 599 alacantra rim, fanatec elite load cell pedals and the th8a shifter. Not sure wife would appreciate bass shakers she already says it's noisy already with the clunking of the shifter.:(

Yeah my wife complains about the shifter noise too lol, you seriously need a man cave. Not much work done in my office now, if I WFH I have to sit at the dining table lol

My biggest gripe is the lack of feedback when braking in all games does the load cell help?

Is the Alacantra rim good, thinking of getting either that or the GTE to replace my 458 Italia one as it is a tad too small.
