I can't wait to try this - I'll be playing in vr, but currently don't have a wheel, only an Xbox controller (I use this to play Dirt and it's great). Will the game be as uncontrollable as PC1 with the pad, or have they sorted the controls out a bit?

It's much better with a controller than PC1 was.

Oh lord I had my first really bad nausea episode! I can drive normal cars on normal tracks in VR all day long but those bloody karts are something else. They are amazing to drive but I can only take 20 minutes. I think it is the super responsive steering and tight, fast cornering that is messing with my brain.

Oh yeah I'll bet. Try f1 cars on cal highway if you want a similar experience.

What would you guys say was the best starting point for a career in terms of car choice, bearing in mind I'm a complete newb to racing Sims?

I won't be playing again until my wheel and pedals have arrived. :)

No probs let us know how you get on. If using a wheel, be aware the game defaults to a loose setup (can be tailhappy), if you struggle try the stable setup, click load setup and you should see it listed. The loose setup usually is quicker for people who are used to racing games like this, stable is a bit more friendly for beginners...

I know I’ve replied to myself, (bad habit to have in public...) but just to let others know that the controls on a pad aren’t as forgiving as the likes of Forza, but more along the lines of Dirt Rally. Manageable and perfectly doable, but you’ll need practice!

Also, VR on this is amazing. I did a track day last year at Oulton Park*, and this game comes EXTREMELY close to replicating the real thing. All the bumps, hills, braking points, visual reference points in the scenery are exactly as I remembered and two laps in, I’d forgotten I was sat on the sofa in our spare bedroom - the immersion on Oculus really is that good. The sense of scale at Silverstone and the feeing of speed you can carry round corners are very similar to real life. I also hadn’t realised what a rollercoaster the Nordschleife is!

*I originally bought PC1 on the Xbox as an attempt to try to learn the track a bit before a real driving day, but found the controls so over sensitive it was a real issue getting a single clean lap and it wasn’t much use in the end. PC2 is way better in this respect.

I have PC2 but I dont see the big thing about the " changing " tracks because it starts to rain ?....did that in PC1, although there is way more grip in PC2 in the wet than the dry , mind you I did get myself Assetto Corsa and have found no need to go play PC1 or PC2.

I've been playing the older cars, Ford Escort, Lotus 25, Lotus 49 on all terrain tyres on the RX tracks...so much fun. Found out RX cars don't have headlights when I tried to race in blizzard at night in them, that was tricky lol.

Don't know about the way more grip in wet than dry thing, I'm always slower in wet conditions, how much varies by track and car as some cars seem to have a better balance in the wet. I've never been quicker than in the dry though. I still play AC occasionally, the new Ferrari pack had some nice toys, they really need to sort out the UI to work in VR though.

I bought the Oculus Rift yesterday mainly for project cars 2. Being able to sit in the car and look around is amazing but I just wish the quality was better. I've put everything to max and 2. 0 super sampling and it still looks rubbish. Running it maxed was very taxing so I've turned some settings down and now running at 1.7 super sampling and it's playable but looks like poo lol

Is this the best it can look or am I doing something wrong? I've made sure the rift is sitting properly on my face.

What is the issue really, what "looks like poo"? We can't see what you're seeing so no way to say whether something is just the way it is, there's a hardware fault, or user error involved.

Image quality isn't great but you soon forget about it when you're zipping around. That's my take on it, FWIW.
