Project Whurple - White/Purple Watercooled Build - Changes to 3d printer build!!

Was too much to hope for the fans would
Do exactly the shade you wanted
Straight out the box :(
No way to software control them I am guessing :(

I have another controller that gets a lot closer so can measure what it is doing with my multimeter and simply make it do that. Should be fairly easy... should...

Meanwhile....

I wonder who makes those chips... no way its gloway... The mystery shall not be answered until we fire it up. Oh yea thats how this rgb memory goes together.

I sure hope she appreciates the amount of effort you are putting into this:)

TBH I am not even sure she cares. I know she will like having her own workspace instead of stealing mine all the time and really this is more about that, making an office we can both be in should we need to is really what it is about.

The suspense is killing me! I hope the stuff from China hurries up! Are the heatsinks on the ram really stuck on with double sided sticky tape? I'm learning a lot watching the build!

Is the rest of her station going to be white and purple themed as well?

And are you going to stencil anything onto the RAM?

What's the special masking tape that you'll be using for the logo too!

Also very impressed with the rgb fans! Where did you put the paper clip by the way?? Cheers sorry for all the questions!

So the ram, one side has a sticky double sided tape and the other heat pads that are sticky that goes across the ram modules. Memory operates at temperatures that do not need any kind of cooling in a regular pc case. What you see in terms of aesthetics on ram is purely that and carries no performance benefit.

The ram so won't be stencilled yet or anything like that but I have already given one stick a second coat of white and will put the purple details on shortly before the white dries fully. I will show you a before and after once that is done :)

When im spraying what I normally do is mask up everything near to the edge so everything apart from the areas you want is covered then at the edge you want a fine line 2 or 3mm masking tape, ive run out of the tape that give a nice edge though and don't know when that will show up. I am going to just do the memory with normal run of the mill tape so we shall see what happens.

So to jump an ATX psu to run some fans or whatever like I am in that pic you need to do this:

then turn it on and away you go. Do not do unless you know what you are doing.

@clifbel if your psu has coloured wires
Put paperclip or bit of wire etc
From green wire pin to any black wire pin
If all your wires are black like vinces
It's always the same pin location
On all psus~something that's actually standardised for a change :)

Aha thanks guys! That's a good thing to remember when I start my next build!

Ah so the new water-cooled RAM I saw at CES2020 is mostly a gimmick and just to look good?

Ooh that paint job sounds good and I think I understand what you mean about the masking tape stuff, although it does sound fairly finnicky to do! Look forward to seeing the results! Thanks for keeping the updates regular, especially now given the current situation!

Watercooling for rams been around quite a long while
Modern ram if any thing runs cooler as old stuff from vague memory may have
Got 1.65v going through it
If not confident of shoving a wire in psu pins you can buy a thing for it for a few quid
Basically just 24 pin female connector with the bit of wire inside it
But means you can't accidentally shove a bit of wire in the wrong pins if having a
DOH! Day:)
Some of them even got little on/off button too so even easier to use

Thank you! Good to know that I shouldn't be too previous about the heatsink on RAM and just pick something based on performance and looks now.

I'll definitely be shoving a paperclip in haha! I'd just end up losing the other thing, or forget I even had it!

Lol sounds like me
Got so much stuff I forget what I have
And always losing things
Got 2 or 3 of those psu jumpers somewhere but always end up shoving
A pair of needle nose tweezers in the 24 pin holes instead :)

Nice guitar, can you play it, bet it sounds beautiful

A little bit, I more make noise and just play a bit of blues, mainly learning scales etc. I can play a bit of the chillies, bit of Incubus but I have friends that can actually play and well yea i'm crap. That guitar though my friends that can actually play enjoy playing it, its a electro acoustic so it's got a nice acoustic sound but the neck is not deep like an acoustic so it plays a lot like an electric guitar. Basically it's a guitar for noobs.

Wasn't even expensive at the time i think like £100 odd quid. I like it though :) I did see a musician playing the same one at a local place so it can't be totally crap.
