PS(PC)VR 2, anyone interested?

Seems the G2 is better.

I didn't listen to the video just watched the comparisons and I like the PSVR2 more there, it's significantly brighter than the other two and the colors pop more

The G2 is going to stop working soon apparently due to Microsoft shutting down mixed reality, unless HP wants to turn it into a steam pcvr headset

I'm sure the community will come up with a workaround to keep the G2 going. It may be possible to pull the windows mixed reality software from an install and bundle it with an installer to put it on OS's that don't have it already installed. Like the way peeps are still playing Echo VR.

Nice through the lense comparison between psvr2 and Q3.
From my short amount of testing I have to agree.

I was comparing the PSVR2 to my PICO 4 and felt while the colours were more vivid on the PSVR2, the image was crisper on the PICO 4 and the sweet spot was much better.

I also noticed more compression for some reason playing Alyx on the PSVR2

I used virtual desktop for the Pico 4 and it seems a slightly better experience so far.

Watched this vid yesterday. Looks like anyone thinking of 'upgrading' from a Reverb G2 to a PSVR2 - like I was - needs to give themselves a bit of a slap. I can't believe how much better the clarity is on the G2! The clarity of the PSVR2 looks pretty woeful. Even the black levels look better on the G2 in some tests, but that can't be right vs OLED, so that's a bit of an anomaly.

I think the only viable, actual upgrade for G2 owners is the Pimax Crystal Light at the moment. And by the time Windows Mixed Reality support is pulled (end of 2025 I believe, and if you avoid updating to 24H2 possibly longer) there may be even more headset options by then. I also have a feeling workarounds may be done to keep G2's working anyway.

ALSO - take a look at this through the lens comparison between Quest 3 and PSVR2 - again the clarity of the PSVR2 looks really really poor....

Pitty about the price for G2 owners. G2 is currently $349usd, as is PSVR2, while Crystal Lite is $899. That's the reason why VR sales have been tanking in the last year - the cost to upgrade from older headsets is ridiculous

Even for a G2, the only headsets that you can get for the same or similar price is side grades, any actual upgrade is double or triple the price!

The other issue is the black levels, users are finding the psvr2 doesn't have good black levels in most games on steam, many just look grey like the quest 3 and g2. It's because of SteamVR settings, looks like Valve disabled pure blacks, so if you compare a game that runs on SteamVR and PS5, the PS5 version has far better contrast and black levels, so another L for PCVR

Never used a reverb but testing the psvr2 with alyx I've been quite impressed with blacks and colours, even the sharpness is better than on a ps5, it might help I have the globular cluster Comfort that definitely helps hold the sweet spot

Seems the G2 is better.

You'd think he'd realise that he's not doing comparisons right when the G2 LCD has good black levels and the PSVR2 has terrible black levels.

The G2 v2 is a little sharper. The PSVR2 has better lenses, better colours, better black levels, better contrast, better brightness. G2 looks better in sim racing, PSVR2 looks much better in HL:A and most other titles

There's lots of reports from people saying that their psvr2 is not giving good blacks when used with their PC. Not all, but it seems like a common enough issue. Would imagine it's just a software fix.

the black levels on mine are no different to the headset receiving no power - it can't go any darker. Mine just doesn't work with my 4090 PC but works fine with the 3090 PC, which is very odd.

can't for the life of me get mine to work, connected everything up, paired the controllers no problem start psvr app ans go through the setup procedure after a few clicks it just crashes "SteamVR has encountered a critical error."
:(

Mine installed first time on my 3090 pc and I cannot get it to install on my 4090 pc. I have fresh formatted the PC , removed all other hardware devices, tried 3x usb BT devices etc and every single time I either get an error saying my USB3 sockets aren't USB3 or it goes to try and install firmware on the headset - which it clearly doesn't need because it works on a different PC.

Remember reading a little earlier about the onboard BT not being any good, nipped to work as I knew I had a TP link adapter on my desk, plugged that in and its worked perfectly, Half Life Alyx is amazing! unfortunately my controllers were low on battery lol so charging them up now, did get a message saying low VRAM detected but it played just fine

Missed the deal when this was £350 but ordered one for £430 today and the PC adapter £50.

Hopefully i have no issues getting it working when it arrives.

It's a birthday present to myself :D

So far I've:
Tried 3x different USB BT adapters
Bought a PCIe AX3000 WIFI/BT device
Reformatted the PC 3x times
Updated new MOBO BIOS
Removed all hardware devices other than mouse/keyboard
Purchased Driver Booster to update any out of date USB/BT drivers not fixed with Windows update.
Tried both Varjo and Sony breakout boxes
Tried different USB sockets and DP1.4 sockets.

Why does my 4090 PC not get passed the headset being discovered?

My 3090 PC installed straight away without any issues but it doesn't have the required amount of USB ports for my Sim rig so need it in my 4090 PC.

This is the furthest I get with the installation, a headset firmware update which continues for 20 minutes before time-out.

Does you have a PS5 to test it with ?

yeah, headset works perfectly fine. No firmware update required on both the 3090 and PS5.
Must be graphics card related because i seen one person saying after they enabled integrated graphics the app worked so if that is the case can you not swap over the graphics cards to see if it works on the other pc then swap back lol.
