Considering how buggy and poorly implemented Android seems to be Id rather Google got their house in order way before they jumped to a console platform (in whatever form). Why not? You can bet your bottom dollar there will be heavy ties between Xbox, Windows 8, WP8 and Windows RT devices.
Sony may want to move to compete with this.
I actually cant think of much worse really, having a poorly optimised OS eating into precious RAM and CPU cycles that could be utilised better elsewhere, while some random social web 2.0 widget pops up while Im trying to game - if it happened I genuinely would reconsider getting a PS4. Honestly I shudder at the thought...
It makes sense for Sony to move the PS brand onto other platforms as 'free advertising', but its not really similar to what MS are doing by ensuring their foundation products are interlinked (in essence Win8 is the keystone). Sony embracing Android on the PS4 just seems to be for the benefit of Google rather a 'killer app' for Sony.
EDIT: TBH Ive read your comment and run with it somewhat but my base argument is that its in MSs best interest to make sure the products/services it owns are interlinked, considering Sony doesnt have that same relationship with Google at best it could be used as an advertising platform for both, but I just dont see the benefits to Sony for bringing Android integration to the PS4, let alone some form of OS. This is obviously outside of the fact that I presume your inference is based on MS having a mobile platform, I just dont see that that connection logically leads to Sony jumping into bed with Google with the PS4.
EDIT2: To aid discussing, now someone like Valve actually could be more interesting/useful - perhaps using the Steam platform as a replacement PSN store.
